Yeah I get that, but what benifit is it there when it is normally screwed into the head just behind the thermostat.

Yea, I've had three 73's. They've all had just a plain thermostat housing with the temp sender in the head.

1974 A13 B210 possibly?

***EDIT***
I am a complete idiot. I appologize for the confusion.

So I actually looked with my eyes (not my mind's eye) at the engine that came with my 73 MT Sedan. The car was built 4/73.

It indeed has this style thermostat housing with the sender still in it.

It appears to be electrical with two wires that have been clipped off.

Is this the "thermo switch" for the vacuum advance system.

 Re: Electric Thermostat housing
I don't know what it is, only that they used it on DATSUN 1200 (B110) -- not on B210. Starting March 1973. So only the last few months of 1973 1200s. As shown by the drawing in the factory parts catalog.

The 1972 has the vacuum advance cutout (TCVAS) under the dash. I've never had a 1973. The service manual doesn't say what it is for. Perhaps it is for TCVAS.

It's a mystery.

So, does it have the opening (hole) for the temp sensor or is it blocked off, I only ask because I think I have seen them like that with out the hole for the sensor...might not have been an a motor tho.....
