Rings let go and went up, I didn't find any trace of them going down into the sump and the resulting bore wear seemed minimal. The block is going 60 thou over however |

Re: A14 piston I had a piston do that in a race engine. We only found out when part of the ring closed down the gap on the spark plug & caused a misfire. Mind you the spark plug was in Number 1 cylinder & the piston ring was from Number 4 cylinder. Must have gone out the exhaust & back up into the other cylinder. Anybody want to buy an A14 with an A15 crank, needs new pistons & an overbore?

Re: A14 piston Boosted, I wish lol. What I think caused this failure was the car was getting a lot of heatsoak between runs at a khanacross I was at. I checked the temp gauge all day and it wasn't showing signs of overheating but it was a shocking hot day. Didn't really notice anything different driving 100km back home in the arvo, the first real sign I had was on the monday morning when smoke was spewing out the passenger side of the bonnet on the way to work. The car wasn't idling properly either.
I've ordered some pistons rings to go with teh piston I bought the otehr day but theyy've got a cast iron top ring. Is it really worth me having to pay an extra 40 bucks for chromoly rings? are they better at absorbing heat?

Re: A14 piston i've had a few of them do that! stock piston are synonomous for rolling the ring lands, especially under boosted applications.
Was this a result of a turbo system?
you did a good job!
