Do you have any more info on this? ie. how is it attached to the bed, where are your cables running, and is it hard to remove the battery should you need to?

I'm thinking of doing this myself, as I like the idea of an empty tray area, and I don't want the battery under the bonnet.

It's attached to the bed with the bolts for the box lid. The positive goes directly to the starter and the negative goes to the cab floor. Make sure you strip the paint off the ground point then sand it with 1000 grit sandpaper. It's important to do this or you won't get a good ground. Then ground your engine with similar size ground wire to the frame (I went from the alternator bracket bolt). I may also do a ground from the head to the frame. You don't want your electrical system producing a good positive charge with a weak ground. I left plenty of slack in the cables so the box can be lowered down easily and used an Optima red top dry cell battery so there's no maintenance to worry about. I also ran an extra positive into the cab to a distribution block to simplify wiring future accessories.

Thanks for the reply. It's very neato, and yeah, the idea of the distribution block in the cab/engine bay is a good idea.

There should be no reason why this is illegal in Oz should there? I just don't want to go to all the trouble of doing it if I'm told it ain't gonna pass a road worthy.

One last thing, did you make this yourself, or is it a commonly bought piece over there?

all the rally cars relocate to the boot, its even allowed in the passenger compartment with an appropriate box vented to the outside of the car, i just wired the fat wire to the starter motor terminal and everything else wires to that, or the kill switch which is on the centre console, the kill switch is probably a requirement, and also for motorsport you need a blue triangle on the outside of the car indicating the battery location (dunno if this is required for road but dont think so)

In plan "B" for my 1000 coupe, the plan that includes a CA16/18DE, i figured i would lremove the battery from the engine bay & relocate it to the .....?
If i lose the spare, or go to a space saver tyre of stock size, there might be enough room in this compartment, but everything aft of the firewall is inside the cabin.

Any suggestions? [printable ones only please] P'raps it will need to stay up front. This car is strictly street, so its new location must take that into account.

As i plan to put a cage in i'm not worried about losing the floor space in the back

mines behind the driver where the back seat was in my rallycar

in my road car i have the battery a spare 14" rim and tyre and a subwoofer all across the back, plus two amps in front of that, so there is plenty of room in the boot
