This was Josh Leong's CA18DET 120y, used S13 5 spd, front brakes and original H145 diff. In Sydney's southern suburbs somewhere (circa July 2002).

this car also had its 2.5 inch exhaust disappear into the original pea-shooter muffler so you'd never know looking from the outside (cept when he shot off at the lights). TRX mags, dents and scratches - a very impressive sleeper.

...and original H145 diff...
are you sure? Only the fully imported coupes had the jap diffs in Aus. And I can't imagine that lasting much longer than reversing it out of the shed! The Aus assembled sedans had a much larger and stronger BW diff which would work OK with a stock CA18DET.

HUGE engine bay compared to a 1200. But is it just me or does that motor sit a long way forward of the firewall?

Your rigth L18 the engine could go back at least another 2 inches. maybe has done this to make it easier to get at gearbox bolts as they are pretty close to the top of the trans tunnel when the engine sits back.

yeah, I know what that's like. I've got a 'custom' bent spanner to get to my top two bellhousing bolts, and to get to them with that you have to remove the engine mounts and drop the motor onto the x-member to get that little bit extra clearance. These days I normally remove the head first then there's no hassle at all.

I'm going to mount the A12 (turbo) as low and as far back as possible too. Access to bellhousing bolts is definitely second to weight distribution (and the other benefits) as far as I'm concerned.
