also look at the twin cams! now we know where the LZ head
came from for Nissan, an exact copy yet the L series cranks
are used for the Kent engines and for cossie headed kents
so who knows maybe slight mods and presto!

Actually gone the other way in the past for an L series based Aussie Single Cam Formula 2 class years back and instead used a Cosworth crank in an L16.

And by the way according to Howard Marsden the Nissan Competition Manager in Australia the LZ heads were in fact loosley copied of the old 2002 BMW based Formula 2 engines from the early seventies and the Cosworth FVA from the Sixties not the BDA.

Cosworths are a Bitch to do machining on because they do things like the machining for the valve guides from the Lifter Bore side unlike everybody else, Smart really because then the liftewrs and Valves and guides are in near perfect alignment.
Necessary not really because everybody else locates from the combustion chamber side for any machining work, What it did mean is a whole bucketload of Special tools for each Cosworth Engine you worked on

Internally no idea on Cossies but on looks alone this one
looks like what the LZ used for styling


This one looks more like what the FJ20 head


Then theres this lil Gem which is the super high port head conversion
for the Kent motor which for under 1000cc made 130hp the 1098cc made 20hp more.

I was told by an old racer from OZ that yes, they used to do that with Datsun engines, but they found it doesn't make any more power than careful porting ...

How do I add a photo to a comment? The upload button seems to have disappeared?

I have a photo of a round port head on a flow bench that had the inlet port raised above the surface of the rocker cover gasket. This was done by two friends of mine using putty to experiment on the improvements gained from "downporting"

Yes improved a lot over the night. Can't remember the CFM of the top of my head but it was on a standard valve and would have gone a little better with the decent bellmouth but was well worth it.

That Kamikaze is photoshoped I believe.

I have this in the shed too. It flowed 158cfm@0.600 lift on the inlet and 128cfm@0.600 on the exhaust. I cannot remember the valve sizes but I know they are smaller than the normal 40/33 combo typically used on race engines. Head is on the soft side so I will either have it re-hardened or have two of my friends do some welding/port work on another head.

158cfm is not bad, would be nice to know if 180+cfm is possible
as the stock ka24de head flows 280cfm

ka24de head on an L18 bottom end stock could make 200hp with 45mm webers.
