Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE The rotten sod. It's running a coupe grille, & i have need of one. I would happily swap him a sedan one for it. Chris

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE Looks nice. There was a CA18 1000 that held the Newcastle Mattara Hill climb record for a while. Actually saw it for sale on another website about 6 months ago. I'd really like to build my 1000 up into a little weekend warrior, eventually. Have to finish the 1200 ute first, then get a real job (maybe the real job should come first), then save like crazy again. hmmm, if only I'd won the lottery...

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE I have been doing some rough measurements of a friends spare CA16DE as well as my now empty engine bay. First indications are that it is going to be a squeeze, particularly at the front & the throttle body, which is on top of the cam covers. The fact that this one has a CA18DE in it is heartening, although a picture of the engine would be good

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE dodgeman i am not knowledged in the ca series engines but I wonder if a rwd ca series inlet manifold will bolt to the ca16de to over come the height problem of the throttle body Does anyone know if this swap is possible?

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE PDS Sometime after christmas we will tow the engineless car up to my friends workshop & hoist his spare CA16DE engine in. This engine is essentially complete, so we will get a good idea of where the interferance points are, & what will be needed to overcome any problems. I can move the engine a little further foward than would be optimal for a racer if necessary, but a stock air cleaner on an A12 rubs on a 1000's bonnet underside, which is a good sign that the 1000 bonnet line is lower than the 1200 & that's not what i want to find.
Never mind, if i can make it work, it will be one slick little Datsun. The intake swap is a good idea & when i get some hollidays in March, i will hit the wreckers & measure everything.
You know, the more i see this picture, the more i like it, but a 2" chop would really clean up the styling. Chris

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE It's quick. Almost 2 seconds quicker than me on the Hillclimb. Different category car though. It's a Sport Sedan running Lexan or Perspex side and rear, slicks, and have way more freedoms in suspension etc. I don't have any more details on the car or engine bay pics.

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE I just read of a 1600 running a CA18DE everything dialed in at 66kw @ the wheels. Is there such a thing as a RWD CA18DE? Or did the N.A. Silvia's all run a CA20e? Also, wouldn't you might be better off with a built L18 if you're not turboing? I mean, unless you guys in AU can build a trick N.A. CA18DE for a comparable price, I wonder the advantage in a CA vs. an L (aside from aesthetics).

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE Yes, it's a good dramatic photo, nice & low, reasonably close, nice & big. Best shot of a 1000 coupe grille i have seen for a long time. Now all i need is to get one as good or better.

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE Mat - NA (Q's and J's) S13 Silvias used CA18DE and later SR20DE.
L18_B110 what type of tires do you run on yours? I read on here they are 205/60-13's is that correct? I'm shopping for tires for my 13X7s and 13X8s.

Re: 1000 2dr CA18DE 130hp well yes is that steve newings stanza coupe wich also has 230hp? Alot of work has gone into that ca18 of his and that would make a difference to that little 1K. Pity cause an old fiat 1770cc can make 128 with 40 mm webers from factory and has no pollution gear. Modded with cams, exhaust, ignition recurve and tuned 45s theyre known to make 180hp with no head work and 2 valves. 43.5mm inlets and 37mm exhausts valves. Damm it Im still thinking of this old skool conversion for my 1K.
