The colour isn't all that much diferent from the colour that i did my wife's 1000 two door in. It looked good on that, it looks good on this.

I am glad I am not the only one who has trouble with panelbeaters, 100's of phone calls, then after 6 months they decide to do something and they want a progress payment. Does anybody know why and how they can get away with this?
I checked out your shoey.com site and you have done a considerable amount of work, well done. That would have helped pass the time.

dude

just outta intrest, what is the cost of such a paint job??
I am repainting mine now, and am considering giving it to a panel beater to finish due to time constraints.
How much of the prep work did you do before giving it to the panel beaters

 Re: Project Car..Looking Good
15 months ago....long ago when I got the initial quote. The price was $6500. Which may have been a bit high, but the result does show the value.

This is for not much work on the quarters, I did most of that myself. I stripped the car back to bare metal ALL over. top and bottom in and out. I then got the panel gap filler, and did the seals between every panel. I did the boot lid, involving soldering brazing rod around the edge to reduce the gaps. The Painter still had to get all of the door gaps right, he prepped from metal up. My family has had problems with previous cars at painters, where they blame the undercoat or spray putty sinkback or old paint for a bad finish. To avoid that, I let the painter do the lot when it comes to the outer surfaces.

I spent 6 months on cleaning up the little bit of rust there was. The shelll did have some strange dents, like one on the front of the roof, where someone (a dipshit obviously) had stood on the roof.

The painter will put sound deadening in the inner guards, and under the floor, and then use a similar colour dark grey all over the floor, and use GMH black on the inner panels, floor and boot area.

To summarise, it's not cheap to get someone else to do the job, but it gave me and the old man the space to extend the garage, and give the finished car a place to be secured when Im not driving it.

Chris

Good news. The green datsun is finally at home in MY garage.
I need to extend the garage before I can bring the white one home. Now its time to get all my tools organised, so I can have some datsun fun.

What is it with panelshops doing things in their own time, mines been there for 10 months. If someone bought me an engine to be rebuilt, I'm sure I'd get away with it NOT.

It's not the 15 months, but the 100 phone calls for updates, and over 1000kms of driving to him to have a look at the progress (Or lack of it). And 15 months of worrying about him going bankrupt..

But Yeah, I'm pretty happy about it.

I'm lucky my old man is a panel beater so I get body work and painting done in a matter of weeks.

I can't wait to see the finished product. The poor CA would be sitting around not doing alot.

Cheers
Damo
