 Re: My compressor project
The compressor will be driven by an tractor
the power will go trought an gearbox to the compressor so i have 4 different gears to put in
the lowest geart it will rev at 1000rpm and the highest gear it will rev 4000rpm so the maximum capacity will be max 4000liter per minutes
it will pump to an tank. I will alllso make an power disable mechanism that should work with the original clutch so when it have pumped to the maximum pressure 10bar it will disable the driving power to the compressor when the pressure drops it will start again

we had an old vw motor that we used as a mobile compressor on the farm.
Two opposite cylinders were used for power and the other two for the air. It ran a bit rough on only two cylinders, but it never died!!
Basically used the teepee style headers for the vw and just plumbed the respective exhaust pipe to the tank or the open air.

What exactly is going on here
Will this "engine" be used as an air pump?

looks like it. If you look closely, you will see that the right angle things have arrows on the side. They must be one way valves. so when piston is going down it sucks air in, and when it goes up, it pushes the air out the other side..

That will work fine, gear the drive motor down a fair bit.It will be water cooled and well oiled to.I have a few dead blocks here, mite do the same.

not a bad idea at all, what drives it? eletric motor like from a waching machine? will the air go to a tank or just run into 1 fitting were a hose can be fitted?

 Re: My compressor project
just had a brain storm, for water cooling why not run in 1 cylinder water and just make it re circulate through the motor? and use the coolant they use on lathes with sum water to stop any rust

The inlet valves look a bit small to flow 250 litres with out restriction.
This style of valve usually have a fairly high inertia. This keeps the maximum operating frequency fairly low. Hopefully it will go up to a 1000 cycles a minute.

I have seen this done with reed valves on a booster compressor and it worked well.
