Sorry mate i dont think its the one you are thinking of... this one is the original paint, its not metalic and the reasone it is so shiny is it has been under a cover in a shed for the best part of 20 years and looked after previous to that... the guy i bought it off bought it for his aging mother brand new and she used it to drive to town for grocery's oh and it was driven to Adelaide once a year for easter long weekend every year up untill the late 80's when his mother died and it was put in the shed and rarely driven since....
i have had the car nearly a year not much has gone wrong thank god some parts like carby gaskets can be a real pain to trackdown but inexpensive when you do!!! Its the best, i also have r32 gtr but to be honest i would sell that before i sold the dat its found its final owner!!!!

its a 1967 but was purchased brand new in early 1970, the car was actually imported and is the absolute base model no heaters had no wipers but the holes where there no wiper motor no mirrors no sun visors, everything was put on by datsun at the request of the owner i have the original sales docket with all these extras on it and there labour costs pretty funny!!!! I wanted a set of 14x7 with 185/55'/14 on them and then put the 1200 coupe flares on it and get the suspension really handling!!!

Those who spend some time a 1k become infatuated by its uniquely carved body which reveals more intimate lines the more you look at them. For others its just a lightweight japanese bento box or tupperware container.

Im glad Im not the only one to be addicted to the 1K.

The online tyre size calculator says that the 185x55x14 tyre is 559mm in diameter & this compares faviurably with the original tyre's diameter of 552mm, so this tyre should be good for the front, but i suspect that you are geting a little ambitious with the 7" wide rims. The 185 tyre was actually designed for a 5" rim & is legal from there up to 7"
For fronts on a 1000, i recomend, from personal experience, a 5-1/2" rim. It may not impress the wankers as much, but it works with the front end very well. If it were possible, i think i would run 5" rims on the front of mine again, with the 185 tyres.

The rear rims will also be tight unless you plan to butcher the rear wheel arch. The biggest that i could squeeze into a stock sized wheel tub were my 195x60x13's on 5-1/2 rims. As long as your 14" wheel & tyre combo is prety close to this size, dimentionally, you will be OK.

I do not advocate radiusing the wheel arches as they are so hard to fix after you realise that it was not such a good move.

Try jacking the car up, pull the wheels on one side, tape on some flares & place some suitable rims in the hole, then lower it down to the height that you want. Borrow some wheels if you can, then shoot away with your digicam. Load it into your computer & run it as a slideshow for a while. This way you can let the images grow on you for a while. If you decide it isn't right, then you lose only a little time & effort.
If it is right, then you can move ahead confidently.

 Re: MY 1000
thanks for the info dodgeman, i actually thought the 185 was for a 6 inch or 6.5 inch rims hence my plans for the 7''s, so now that i know thats not the case i will just go a six inch rim.... i'm pretty sure those tyres will fit on the back as per your recomendations it is a little narrower than a 190 just so it should be ok????

Also i dont plan to do any butchering as i have experience in painel beating and fiber glass work i was going to roll out the lip on the metal just a little then fit the flare over the top of this and cut and extend the fiberglass to hide that its actually done in steel the fiberglass is for image and they will be urathaned on...while still hard to remove no bolt holes means i could go back to stock, no way id butcher my thousand i know what you were probably thinking though, but i really cherish my thou and feel lucky to own one!!!

It sounds like a plan to me.

I really wish that i had kept the green one that i rebuilt for my wife. It was a '68.

As far as i can tell, all of the '67 sedans that were sold through dealers in Australia, were sold with the "three on the tree" gearbox, but the four speed version was, in fact, made by Datsun. I wonder what gearbox was in the '67 that won it's class at Bathirst when they were new. I can hardly imagine that it was the three speed.

B310GX, can you shed any light on that.

D,
I have been hooked in the lovely 1k since i first took my sedan for a test drive from the used car lot in 1980.
We are not alone.

Looks to be a 1967 standard model. Good, reliable, solid, basic transportation. Cheap as chips to run too. For a man on a budget, you couldn't go past a Datsun. That right Ddgonzal?
Fit a set of low cost, pre loved 13" mags with 185x60x13" tyres & you got a winner right away.

Ah, you've got me figured out. For the person who appreciates a good car on a budget, a Datsun can't be beat. Other used cars might be inexpensive to purchase, but will often cost more in the long run.

i think..no im sure.. its maybe.... its one i had for a while in 1988-90, bec i recognise my own work...

it was a 1967 3 speed column, i sprayed it with several coats of gunmetal grey charcoal, and clearcoat and polished it to a show finish. i had 180B rims and caps on it that looked fantastic, then sold it with the stock 12's and the hubcaps are still in the shed to this day.

i suspect its the same one bec its missing the hubcaps, that is not a factory color, there were no metallic 1000's and the grey they came in was not so dark, also not as glossy. and how many other 67 1000 2 doors would have been painted like that? plus i know these cars go totally forever and just cant be killed, so wouldnt surprise at all if it was still going.

ive got a bunch of pics taken when i sprayed the one i had, if anyone interested in comparing with the one in the pic
