Re: sr20det 1200 The L24 was the R/DR30 series Skyline, not the R31, which had an RB series.

Re: sr20det 1200 Auto trans 1200s were fairly common in the US, though as a more expensive option, they did not sell as well as the MT cars.

Re: sr20det 1200 yeah, ive started redeming my comment, which i repeat is what i was told, that the firewall has to be moved
i have heard of cicuit cars with SR motors that didnt move the wall but apparently it is an extremely tight fit and less than ideal

Re: sr20det 1200 youve got to move firewall and put in bigger trans-tunnel, thats about as much as i know
oh and i reckon ca18det's better anyway, i wish i could find the article that convinced me of this but anyway.

Re: sr20det 1200 This one was in zoom magazine I think. It was totally stock looking. It had 13 inch wheels though. But those had hubcaps on them. Heaps sleeper...

Re: sr20det 1200 im not experienced with the install but from what ive heard from eveyone is that you dont have to move firewall and only have to massage tunnel with big hammer, better with auto tunnel though

Re: sr20det 1200 Sorry Cel.
We were so slow to answer you question. But to fit a CA18DE/DET it'll fit straight into an Automatic tunnelled 1200. I know the US didn't get any/many? of them.
With only a few tunnel changes, it'll fit in a manual tunnel too. Especially if you use the 910 Bluebird Series3 (CA20) bellhousing and the R31 Skyline (L24) stumpy gearbox.
Using the hybrid box described above, the gear shifter comes straight up the hole!

Re: sr20det 1200 That picture is from a site called Autospeed. They have good info on a helluva lot of stuff. The Datsun 1200 with the SR20 in zoom is from New Zealand, its actually a race only car. Although a 1200 with CA18-DET is in Edition 30 Zoom magazine its from Brisbane QLD a very nice setup and tidier with more room. Its also legal with Mod. Plates, the Sr is too big in capacity for the regulations to be allowed to fit legally. eg.. in my Sunny Coupe the largest turbo motor I was allowed is a 2.1 litre capacity.
Cheers
