The first lightweight big bore engine to replace the sr20 using lighter pressure die casting rather than sand casting. About time!

There's also a link to a nice engineering analysis of the QR25DE in the What's the best engine article.

In most ways it is superior to the SR20 and the CA18: lighter, more powerful, etc. It replaces both of them!Quote:
QR25DE 2.5 liter Nissan/Infiniti engine. Pluses: 13% lighter than SR20DE, 20% lighter than KA24DE. 30mm shorter than SR20, so possibly fitting the 1200 very well. It also has twin, counterrotating balance shafts so it should be a nice smooth engine. The drive-by-wire throttle body should make for easy swap (no throttle linkage to
worry about).

I have been looking at one of these for a customer for nearly a year.

Apart from plasticine rods and very small low friction bearings, thin rings and light pistons it may make a good road engine, but a lot of work would be needed to make them a race engine with any degree of reliability.

I think they are analogous to the dreaded CA20(boat anchor)for race use at present, without a lot more development. Notice the turbo version has not appeared yet!

The VQ35 in the Z is just the opposite with an essentially very strong design and a great potential for a race engine.

Any one got one spare ????

The v6 is a beauty but the suzuki v6 as used for the pikes peak and vitara for a long time is no slouch either and came out much earlier. Should see the size of the ports and lightweight strong design.
check the bottom of this page

So even though the nissan vq35 is nice I have to give the credit to volkswagen (yes I hate golfs!!) with their amazing vr6 2 cam 16valve engine with single head a-la early lancia v4 layout its a revolutionary engine which I wish nissan made a v4 from.

It uses almost halve the parts!!!!

Also theres a v5 20 valve version and honda has a 200hp 990cc v5 as well on this....
