Re: datto put to good use Is that thing actually registered, looks like the number plate is the best undamaged part of the car? the 120Y I mean not the 303,
lee-enfield is it? I had one with the long bayonet, more of a show/collection piece, too long and heavy and loud to go shooting for me.

Re: datto put to good use lol me? redneck? never 120Y not registered, .303 is. I saw a bayonet for one of these at the last local swapmeet, but at $125 I couldnt justify it. Not like I'd be stabbing the goats lol

Re: datto put to good use We never got them new AFAIK, Seems unlikely anyone has imported one either. The 4 door was locally assembled thats why its so common whereas the coupe (and maybe the wagon?) was imported whole so was alot more expensive (A coupe cost more than a SSS new )

Re: datto put to good use Nice rifle. From here it looks to be a SMLE, "rifle No.1, Mk.3*', & from the look of the wood, it could be of Lithgow manufacture. Probably from the 1940's. [All this is stamped on the right side of the butt socket] I have a collection of about 10 or 12 of these from 1895 up to 1942. They are a truly great rifle. Look after it & it will serve you well all your life.

Re: datto put to good use yeah we got a couple, this one (came out of a bunker in PNG if i remember correctly) and a sporterised one (stock cut down) both are great rifles, but i prefer the turkish muser 8mm, got me 2 roos at 550 yards in 3 shots, one on a moving target. This got wasnt actually taken using the SMLE, but a longreach .243, I just thought the .303 looked better.

Re: datto put to good use Thats impressive shooting. I don't know if i could even see 550 yards away. I have built a sport rifle based on an 1895 Lee Metford Cavalry carbine receiver, with heavy barrel & 'Safari' sight, but still need the custom stock. I have also built up a modest stock of custom ammo based on late 40's WRA [Winchester Repeating Arms] brasses, but i am working on a small stock of pre 1905 Kynock Mk.2 military brasses. I can only use new ones & they are not common.
And to keep on track, i hope your newly aquired 120Y works out well. Chris
