These were made in Sydney & were used to "tart up' cars for showroom display

Re: Landeau Iron [the inside story]
This is the inside of the right side Landau Iron from my coupe. This prety much confirms that the vinyl top on my car was a Capitol Motors [NSW Datsun dist.] special. They did this to a number of cars for showroom drawcards & my coupe was one of them.
This practice was carried through to ay least the 120Y, & probably larger models as well

Dodgeman are you saying that is on your 1000 coupe or a 1200 coupe?
I had same on my 1200 but have never seen same on 1000.

These were on my 1000 coupe. Capitol Motors were looking for any gimmick to sell more cars, & vinyl tops were all the rage back then. It was a simple enough job to add a vinyl top to an existing car & this added a touch of class. If it brought more potential buyers into the showroom, then all the better. These landau irons were added over the top of the vinyl to finish off the effect. It worked well enough for them to continue the practice on whatever they were selling for many years.

These are held on by three screws. The center medalion is held in place by double sided sticky stuff, so if yours are the same irons, then carefully remove the center piece in order to access the screw. DO NOT force anything.

Thanks David for the pics. I have since determined that the top is not a factory one & i have deleted that word from the header for this photo.
The black thing in the photo of the 1200 coupe is the rear fender from my '39 Plymouth. That means the photo was taken before May 1977. Probably in '76.
