I finished yr12 yesterday and finally saw the completion of a 1200 sedan and a corolla which where powered by victor lawn mower engines. I never thought it could be done, but it has been and they both actually drive. The engines where taken out and so was pretty much everythin else. The gearbox and diff where kept in and the lawn mower engines where then bolted and mounted into the bay. Its pretty unreal. The pic is of the victor engine in the corolla |

Re: Datsun and corolla victor cars sorry 4 the spelling dodgeman, um i dont think the top speed would be much over walkin pace. Im not sure on gettin it in to 5th, i will look in 2 it but. Its a pretty wild idea, i personally never thought i would see it going.

Re: Datsun and corolla victor cars Tommy Thats OK. I have a bit of a passion for Australian Industrial history, & Victa's are amongst my lines of interest. I have a Villiers engine from a 1953 Victa [first year of production] that is numbered 729 & another for my very early 1955 model [first year of Victa engine] numbered 3,808. The numbers were not restarted with the change of engines, but were simply carried through & this one is the first variant. Yes,... i seem to have an interest in just about anything mechanical. Don't start me on CAC Boomerang fighter aircraft or you will never shut me up.
How is the flywheel driven? If it is gear driven via the ring gear, wouldn't that mean that the flywheel rotated the wrong way, giving one [slow] foward gear, & many reverses? I guess the air filter removal is for performance reasons.
It looks to be a well executed exercise. Congratulations to the construction team.

Re: Datsun and corolla victor cars I like how they used a Chrylser front wheel hub to attach the flywheel.
Since the engine crank is centered over the transmission's starter area, I reckon they are driving the flywheel ring gear. Must be very reduced gearing -- plenty of torque but the flywheel not rotating very fast.

Re: Datsun and corolla victor cars I now have a whole new "worst case senario" plan, should my engine ever blow up. Having the pull start cord extended up to the dash would ice this cake completely.

Re: Datsun and corolla victor cars Victa, V-I-C-T-A The company name was 'derived' from the middle name of the founder, Mervyn Victor Richardson.
