These premium batteries (Oddysey, Optima, etc) have gone up in price in USA too. Only the low-end batteries have stayed about the same, miraculously.
In Australia do they size batteries as in "Group 24", etc? That small Oddyssey is similar to what boltman was running in his electric 1200, although he had about two dozen in there.
Last week I bought a new battery, I went for light weight.
- I chose a Group 26, one of the smallest lightest "car" batteries, mostly because it is only 31 pounds (14 kg) and only $47 USD at
Sears.
- Then today, Matbighat goes down to Sears to look at the Group 26 and decides it is "too big". He bought an even smaller one (a lawn tractor battery) at only 18 pounds -- but it costs more money.
All these batteries have far more cranking capacity than an A12 needs. So why buy a full size battery? Adding lightness makes your car go faster.
