Wot? ue doe-no itz th' 'riginal J series?

This looks like a J12. From memory, these were the Datsun-ised version of those god-awfull Austin A40 engines. Once Datsun engineers had finished with them, they no longer leaked oil, they had become very reliable, & they went quite well.

I saw a Datsun 620[?] flat-bed truck with J15 yesterday. It had a beautifull set of extractors & a well tuned Webber on a custom fabricated manifold. It ran amazingly well. It would be a real surprise to many at the lights.

OK, so it just "looks" like a J12, but it would seem that it is really a J15. They are not a bad engine, but the only real problem for them is that the A series is even better still

ignore that question dodgeman answered it in one of my other posts aparently it would have come from a bluebird of the same earea
yeah looks similar to an a series but a lot hevier with the cast head and the block looks a bit bulkier this motor seems to have a #### load of talk but no where near the revs of the a series

These are good sturdy engines that have soldiered on for decades, largely unsung, but giving sterling service.
They remind me to some degree of the Chrysler & Dodge Polysphere V8 engines of the 1950's. These were the workhorses that moved millions of Chryslers & Dodges for untold mileages with reliability & economy for many years & it will be a long time yet before the last one stops forever. They were the equal or the better of their contempories.

So why doesn't anyone know much about them? Because they both had a fraternal twin on steroids,... the legendary Hemi's
The J15 is a bit like these,... sturdy, reliable, & very user friendly, but overshadowed by a brother with a bigger ego & reputation.
It's all good, but some are even more gooder.

1200RC, They were in 1500 utes. I know a guy who had one. Alloy H190 you say? Hmm, The one I know about is siting in a paddock in bits. Is it worth investigating?

D/Man, I agree wholeheartedly. My Dad had a 313 poly engine with a very mild cam. It used to piss on 318 LA (wedge) equiped cars. Even with the block being forty pounds heveier.
