It's this area thats frequently quite rusty, but its all good.
The black stuff is seam sealer.

The words "seam sealer"is a description of the material, not a brand name. Since all of this will be submerged beneath a goodly layer of sound deadener, it matters not how tidy a job it is.
The material used is a sealant that is designed for the automotive trade.

Settle down boys. This is the grey primer & it bears very little resemblence to the "Pale Grey" that will go over it.
The setion of the body that you are looking at will be done in black sound deadener.

 Re: Nice & clean
dude what have you done all that time spent and such nice restor and the sealer looks like that dont mean to be rude but in my trade id have my arse torn out for a sealer job like that ..........so try this if your using a brush on seam sealer piss it off try the sickaflex they use on boats it comes in grey white and black its als got a rust inhibitor and is paintable ........when sealig mask 10mm each side of the seam then wipe sicka in with finger and bridge the gap between the tape wipe sicka flat with soapy water or prepsol and then remove tape this will give you a nice and appealing finish ..and sealer and seam will b unoticeable once painted this would look heeps better then 4 inch bush marks ...........WHY BRUSH ON SEAM SEALER IS A PRODUCT I HATE .......looks like crap ...dries out in hot condition thus loosing sealing properties.......if used ina flexible area seam sealer has no flex and breaks and peels ...you also have to sand the area in which you are about to seal and its a prick to cover when painting ........

During manufacture, the body panels are painted in a primer, then the finish colour is applied to an assembled body. This area here misses out on a good protective coat of paint & is often quite rusty.

When the paint was removed, this area was found to be in excellent condition & it is all being prepared & painted without the loose panels fitted. This means that all of this will be properly protected now & the specter of nasty cancer eating it away will be removed.
The black stuff is a sealer that will prevent water or mud entering into the seams where two panels join.

This is the most "rust free" body of its age that i have seen, ... ever.

You can't pick the inner guard repair either.
