 Re: 89 Noosa Hillclimb
thanks, that's me

I was running without the front spoiler to increase my chances of getting an invite as it was an 'historic' event. so I had to make it look as correct for the 'period' as it can. They also frown on advertising, and the spoiler has some of that too! (Got away with the advertising on the rear quarters though, scrutineers did not mention it even though the supp regs stated advertising was forbidden.

Car has worked L18, twin 45 Webers, Datrally manifold, SSS head, flat tops, long rods, lightened flywheel, balanced, Sports 2000 clutch, skyline 5spd, 4.3 locked diff.

All the modifications, well almost , are of the era, so they let me run in the Pre72 Touring Cars

Finished 2nd in class to a friend's very strong Datsun 1600 - can't win 'em all, but at least it was another Datto. We beat all the big Mustangs and so on by a good couple of seconds

The red white and blue, with the stripes on the fenders (sorry, wings) is in tribute (?) to the BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) 510s from the early seventies. They beat out Alfa Romeo for the under 2.5 liter class in 1972 I think it was.
Note: all of this information is from my faulty memory bank so feel free to correct me and add any tidbits.

 Re: 89 Noosa Hillclimb
you're giving me a harder time than the scrutineers 1200rallycar! All those parts I've used are of the era except the brakes, struts and gearbox... hmmm, I guess that really only leaves the engine huh?

yeah it is a sort of tribute to the legendary BRE cars of the 70's. I think they won B sedan 3 years in a row? The paint job on my car really all started with the diff swap. I had to flare the rear wheelarches slightly, which cracked the body filler and I didn't have any red paint left. I had heaps of white left over from painting the 120Y/210 coupe so...

btw we call fenders gaurds. I don't know what country calls them wings, but it's not us!
