Pete O'Leary in the 1998 Admirals Road Hill Climb. This car and driver combo is the standard by which all other A12's are measured! Shit he's good!

ahh, the quintessential internet coward. Badmouthing everyone, all the time hiding behind the (perceived) anomimity of the internet.

We're all waiting with baited breath to hear of your undoubtably awesome achievements with these engines and cars!

truth hurts i guess
sorry to hear you are having trouble driving the 240rs thing
judging from your previous cars- you must be due to smash the poor 240rs thing up about now anyway

 Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe
So, I'm slow, Pete's slow, Brent's slow, Tony and Reg rip people off with engine prices... WTF?

I openly admit that the 240 doesnt get the job done on the circuit, with all the bits it has it should be quicker on track. It will get there as I learn more about it.
It is however generally the first 2wd car in a hillclimb, and that IS what I built it for.

Praps you should talk about some of your results so we can all feel suitably humbled....

so if your not marsh, cook, brenden from CSL,you won't be able to build horse power could never see pike agree with that.
sounds like yuo are one of the suckers they make heaps of money out of

 Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe
My engine was built by Lynne Rogers and its a rocket, so please include Lynne at a great engine builder.
When they had it on the dyno Marsh came round and looked at the figures, scratched his head and said "how the F@#k did you get a A12 to develope that much HP & torque?" (yes, it is still 1300cc).

None of these guys are cheap but you get what you pay for, great and reliable horse power!
- I've seen plenty of engines built by others (people who talk the talk & walk the walk) that development good HP but generally speaking last 1 maybe 2 meetings, its just faulse economy, I leant the hard way.

 Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe
Ian still has his coupe and Pikey drives it occasionally for him...the last outing was this years Whittakers meeting....Pete is a motor mechanic not a race engine builder, like Marsh or Brendon at CSL. When Pete got his first coupe which was ex John McElroy he built his own engines and was winning everything till Alvin Watson had Marsh build him a rocket 1300. You realise that Maskells car was Pete's before him ?? Pikey builds Maskells engines and they run well but he would be quick to admit they are not up there with a Marsh unit...Oh and by the way fill in your profile so we know who we're talking with....

 Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe
Pete's only been running it at hillclimbs or the odd meeting. Far more interested in fishing these days!!
He's one of the best hillclimb drivers I've ever seen, and although he's never had the resources to build the highest horsepower engines or throw new tyres at it every season, he can still get the times out of the car.
Agreed, Pikey's car was beautiful, had all the good gear and he could really make that coupe fly, but on the day I dont think he ever beat Pete in a hillclimb!

I always thought that Pikeys car and Ross's where one and the same... You live and learn!

 Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe
pikey's 1200 was built out of a mint shell that an old lady used to own.it would easily be the fastest 1300 next too the one tony marsh had except he had the benifit of running on soft dunlops.tony oliver bought the coupe of pike and ran it into the ground(always looked mint when rex had it)he then sold it to a jappa and the car got sent to japan.
simon harrisons last run in the blue coupe was at admirals rd where he dropped a valve with know money he sold the bits of ripping people off on the way .
buetiful shell though neat car only limited by the hartley down port head it had at the time being a bit small in the ports .
the motor was set way way back .pike allso set his motor back arfter running it for a while with it in its normal position i don't think he said he gained much by it maybe a bit better traction

"he then sold it to a jappa and the car got sent to japan." - surprise surprise, I was the person who sent the car to japan for the "Jappa". As he only wanted to send the car, I got the trailer and spares for at a VERY friendly price

Also O'leary can pedal all right, he just hasn't done much lately, I can remember events where he's had this (and previous coupes) up on the podium and often on the top spot.

geez Cosmo, we're not questioning Rex's ability to build a good engine. I also doubt that he'd charge any less than Marsh, Reg or Lynn for a comparable unit. There's no magic to engine building, you still have to charge by the hour and good parts cost the same no matter what your name is!

I'm with Brent, It's cheaper in the long run to pay someone to build it right the first time. You too will figure this out pretty soon after you decide to give racing a go..

Look, conservatively it costs around $500 to do a national level race meeting before you even consider wear and tear. Add to this the three days you need to do it effectively, including a day off work. I dont need things going wrong when I've got that much at stake.
I dont get upset when Reg writes out his invoice, because I know the thing wont go bang.

Re: Datsun 1200 Shellsport Coupe actual facts
ross thurston had the car before harrison, it was a quick and imaculate car but never had enough grunt to match rex pike's. harison had it and a 4 door- spent more money than he had to run it which is why he disapeared of the seen so quick probably still paying the bills.the running gear ouit of it was sold and oleary got the shell -unfortunatly hes never done the car justice a posers i think should get someone young to drive it

I never knew Ross had that car....Pikey's coupe was Ross's 1st coupe and I thought Ross went straight into racing the production cars a Barina I think!! I never knew the 2 ever raced each other in 1200s. And as for Peter's ability to pedal fast I am assuming you had your tongue in cheek !!

Ah now that was Barry Bould's car. It ran in the Tootal Coolwool series. I can't remember if he drove it in Shellsport too. It had the trick single leaf coilover rear end in it back then. It was rocket science to us young fellas then!! Then a guy called Simon Harrison got it and frightened all the V8 sports sedans around the Wellington Street Race, I have that on tape somewhere too. After getting a reputation for being a quick pedaller he sold the car to Peter and quietly disappeared.

Can we get any specs on that leaf setup or anything to improve our leaf rear ends
Been looking at generic bike coilovers I used which acted pretty well on my old beach buggy
