Parts 8 & 9 are the "overflow tubes". To what do they connect?

Also, does anyone know what the "anti-diesel device" was for the GX setup? My parts book has a reference to it, but no pictures.

 Re: GX carburetor linkage
They don't connect to anything...they run down the inside of the chassis rail and if the floats stick etc the fuel dribbles out onto the ground. A lot of British cars with twin SUs have the same set up including my MGs.Imagine building that environmently friendly feature into a new car now??

The anti dieseling device is devilishly clever.
There is an electric valve that connects these overflow tubes, the inlet manifold, & the outside world.
When the ignition is on, the valve connects the overflow tubes to atmospheric pressure & the car starts & runs normally.
When the ignition is off, the valve is spring loaded to the default position where the float bowls are connected to manifold vacuum. This means that the pressure at the jet is the same as the pressure in the bowl.
Fuel only flows as a result of pressure differential, but now the pressure is the same at both points, so no fuel flow, & no 'running on' or dieseling.
Devilishly simple.

I don't even have any hoses hooked up to mine on my L18 B310. A few weeks back the rear carb got some foreign matter into the needle and seat. On my way to work, (In the dark) there was all of a sudden a strong smell of petrol. It was overflowing onto the headers, and evaporating.
Could have been a nasty fire.

It's time that you.....
Replaced your fuel filter
Replace the fine gauze filters just above the needles & seats.
Fit proper overflow tubes to the carbs.

If not, you just know that they will all laugh when it burns to the ground.
