C'mon Andy... we don't have it any where near as bad as the Eastern states though! No annual inspections, or even inspections when you buy a used car.

Not just the cops, but tyre guys can be hopeless too... I had a guy at Bridgestone tell me that the tyres on my BMW were not legal and were only used on 'small' cars like corrollas. He flatly refused to fit the tyres I wanted to my car, when my car weighs 1050kg, and the corollas he was talking about were new ones that weigh closer to 1250kg! My car also had almost identical power output at 105kW.

Like has been pointed out, I don't see how carving a bit out on a tyre designed to fit a car up to 1300kg is going to be affected on a 700kg car!

I'm not sure we will get them, just the same as we have no annual road worthy inspections over here. We do have the 'hoon' crushing laws now, so I guess a 'P' plater can drive a 'hoon' car just so long as they don't drive like a hoon (or their car will be crushed along with all other hoons what ever their age quick smart!)

a15s won't run out any time soon. Nissan still make them new for forklifts, stationary motors and they are still fitted to 2009 c22 vanettes in Malaysia. Note - the c22 has a floor shift 5 speed in it - maybe Malaysia could be a better import source for gear boxes? Most Australian imports and exports are trans-shipped through Malaysia, so shipping should be fairly inexpensive and it only takes 2 weeks for containers to ship between OZ and Malaysia.

See here... http://www.nissan.com.my/vehicles/vanette/specifications.html

Is the C22 truck the last A series based 'ute'? Interesting to note that the vented disks suspiciously look as though they'd suit a 1200?! (see pics)

There are also conspiracy theories about Lead Replacement additives, that suggest that the additive is actually corrosive to get old cars off the road! This is no doubt due to the brown deposits left on everything when you use the additive.

In any case, as already stated, fortunately you don't need it for the a12. I ran my coupe on it for years with no ill effects. I also ran e10 fuel with no ill effects either (saves you about 14 cents a litre over PULP with 94RON octane).

damn where did you find this? ive been lookin for a coupe in sa for ages lol go the ca sleeper man, or just sell it to me hahahah

He got it from me! It has been my wife's, and then my daily driver for the last 10 years - some people may have spotted it parked by Adelaide Uni as I work there I'll miss the thumbs up, and many comments at the servo I have had over the years but it is time for a 4 door car. I'll be going back to a BMW... 1200 4 doors are too expensive these days + I'm getting old and need a plush comfy ride

Good to see you're excited your purchase Dan. I found the posts on your ute build (it looks fantastic) and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the old coupe! I think blue would suit it as you've suggested, although if you want the ultimate sleeper, maybe think about the factory pale yellow!

Just my 2 cents on the front end... don't worry about the stanza stuff. It already has the late 120Y struts, hubs and brakes (PBR), so just bolt on the S13 brakes suit the CA with some uprated springs. Your track width won't change anywhere near as much as with the stanza gear.

See here (although there are many posts on this conversion):

See you tomorrow when you pop round to pick it up. I'll get home from work around 5:30 - 6:00.

Cheers
Luke

There's plenty you can use. I have early 90's Mazda Astina seats in mine. They are virtually identical in dimensions to the original 1200 seats. I just removed the mazda rails and bolted on the 1200 ones. With the standard rails, they just bolted in like factory ones. I spent an afternoon at the wreckers with a tape measure, measuring up seats till I found some that were the right size. They are good comfy seats for a daily driver, and suit the interior of the car ok.

Not sure how different the 120Y rails are to the 1200, but they should also fit pretty well into the 120Y.

I drive my coupe every day (factory pale yellow colour with original paint, so it's faded to an off white) and live in Ingle Farm. I hardly ever see other datsuns on the road though. My neighbor used to have a 1200 ute, and I see other 1200 utes occasionally, but I haven't seen another coupe on the road in ages. I get thumbs up just about everywhere I drive.

I often see 1000s though... there is a nice 1000 wagon that is often at Ingle Farm shopping centre, and another sedan that is often in a front yard on Wright Rd.
