not sure on local manufacture, but the Barrel Bros LWB 1200 ute is an '86 model and they had to change it's steering column to make it roadworthy...

I think it might be about when the Aussie spec 1200 utes went to a plastic grille, the edges of the taillight surrounds were painted black, and they copped a H165 that aussie spec utes got better steering columns...

I've owned the original Defect (120Y) and what was the parts car, (now The Defect III) since 2001, which is 18 years, and it will be getting rebuilt again soon, as the rust in the roof is getting to the point where if I don't do anything, I'm not going to have a car... I could look for another shell, but finding a better shell isn't that easy, and I need to learn how to weld... So farm hack or road car, it'll need some love spent on it...

Thanks, judging by that exploded view diagram... it’s actually the upper corner of the quarter panel that is rusty, not the roof... replacing the roof skin should fix the drip rails... and I’m debating shaving the drip rails when I swap roof skins, I expect the high speed whistling of the drip rails should go bye bye as a biproduct of doing that... I do have a spare turret, but don’t want to change a turret if I don’t need to...

Anyone got an exploded view pic of how the shell goes together? Kinda curious as I don't really want to replace the whole roof if it's worse than I thought...

175/65 R14's are what it has on the back now , probably can't go bigger , they look awesome, sadly the 200B SX alloys don't clear Aussie spec 120Y struts without spacers... Probably that PB210 dba for them looking awesome

The B210/PB210 engine bay is deceptively big the only things stopping them from being more crazy swap friendly is the steering box and possibly the brake booster pushing the master cylinder forward, I boosted brakes or a vh44 under a guard might help, along with a rack and pinion swap... That being said I like my Datsuns NOT V8 powered, I think I'd go VG30ET at most... There is a pic of a 120Y with a 308 cube Holden V8 on the forums...

yeah but the US spec B-210 has the horrid lead weight bumpers on them... early one's are tolerable, but I'd HAVE to aussify a late madel US spec B-210 if I ever had one...

yeah BW68 crush tube is NLA too

was mainly curious about bearings and stuff as if I'm gonna redo the BW68 I want it done PROPERLY...

would like new bearings rather than something 35+ years old...

guess I need to find the spare BW68 and have a look at it's internals

BW68 was put in as I wanted to run a L18 and 4 speed (vetoed as dad said it'd be too powerful)

and yeah diff is out of an aussie assembled 120Y (March '77)

biggest wirry I have now is is I took the car the diff came from through a salt flat and all the bolts on the back case are all nicely rusted up...

thankfully I have 2 spare BW68's (forgot I have a late model 120Y sedan that is pretty much identical to the project car (August '77)

out of curousity, what has more parts availability to it, H150 or BW68

The Defect 3 (July '74 120Y) has has a BW 68 transplanted under it... but I have heard a metallic "tink tink tink" when I was driving it hard, have a spare BW 68, but I do have a H150 (under a July '75 120Y) I could redo if I needed to...
