Bit of an update, very photo heavy as they tell most of the story

Started the 89- Grill Conversion, won't be well received by everyone but that's life

Also the beginnings of stripping the known problem areas down to see what panels/sections I'll need to replace. Sound Deadener/seam sealer was removed with a wire wheel on an Angle grinder and Sutton Spot Weld Drillbits which were awesome to use. This Video is why the passenger side of the Waterbox refused to drain.

Took on the job of removing the Cowl cover to get a better look at what was hiding underneath. The windscreen has been replaced at some stage (likely in the 90s/early 2000 as it doesn't look like the aftermarket windscreen I bought in ~2013) and they used bulk sealant between the glass, rubber and metal which made it an absolute PITA to remove. Couldn't find any photos in the techwiki/internet of this panel being removed so hopefully these photos help someone out in the future.

Here is a video of the cowl coming off in one piece once all the spot welds and bronze/lead work had been worked down

Have some contacts up and down the east coast of Australia (with one just a few kilometres from my house) who are able to help me out with decent sized rust cuts which is handy

Great! the sequence of photos pulling the engine is fantastic

Appreciate the kind words!

I don't want this forum to sink into the land of lost like many other of my other favourite forums back in the day so I am trying to add content that people will get use out of for years to come. Everything in this thread is hosted on an old Tumblr Account that I use/used solely for hosting images. I deem it safe as I can't imagine that website will be going anywhere in a hurry and also, its FREE (up yours Photobucket/Flickr)

You might have noticed I have added to the Techwiki as well, it is mostly just information that I am actively researching for myself that I think would be beneficial to be brought into 2025

100%, will be a long journey but keen to chip away at it

Did the usual things with the engine bay, deleted the battery tray. Forgot Spot Weld drill bits existed so made a dogs breakfast of it but learnt my lesson when I was decluttering the firewall

Pulled the Motor and Box out last night, first time ever messing around with a Datsun Automatic so it was a learning curve to detach it from the car so I could pull it all out as one unit

And luckily found a buyer instantly so I won't have it hanging around, straight into the Ute and dropping it off this morning to the buyer

If I was you I would try and get a second hand factory wiper switch from Datsun Parts Shop, shoot Chris an email and he should be able to help you out. He is based just north of Brisbane so postage shouldn't take too long, even though Auspost continues to surprise me with their postage duration

If the factory wiring has been hacked to suit the rocker, you should be able to get away with using a 6 Pin QK Connector to suit the factory connector and use this wiring diagram to make it all work like factory again

can you tell us more about this push-to-start setup?

Ahh yes, my jerryrigged ignition barrel setup

White (batt 12v) to 30 on the relay, pin 1 on the toggle switch and pin 1 on the press switch
Black/Yellow (starter wire) to 87 on the relay
Black/White (ignition/accessory wire) to pin 2 on the press switch

Pin 2 on toggle switch to 85 on the relay and 86 on relay/press switch ground to chassis ground

Press switch in (supplies ignition/accessory to vehicle), flick toggle switch (fires starter) and vehicle runs
To ‘turn vehicle off’, press the switch again to cut ignition/accessory power to vehicle

Where you live, is it separate title (for ownership) and road registration every year? In USA these are two different things

Much like the US, things differ state to state. Aus wide you pay CTP (Compulsory Third Party insurance) when you pay for your registration renewal. They also lump in Road Tax and all that crap which doesn't seem to go anywhere because our roads are still cactus

In Queensland you need a Roadworthy only when initially registering an unregistered vehicle, transferring the registration into another persons name, or transferring an interstate vehicle to QLD registration.

I think (don't quote me, I only lived in NSW until I was 12yo), in NSW they have Blue Slips to initially register and/or transfer ownership of the vehicle, and a yearly Pink Slip (roadworthy) if the vehicle is over 5 years old

This is why there are a few absolute bombs driving around QLD as you only need to get a roadworthy once in the cars life under you ownership if you keep paying the registration. Technically speaking, if the previous owner kept the registration going on the 1200 Sedan, he could have been driving it today under the same roadworthy it got back in 2000

Other states, who knows, I can only google so much while I am at work
Every state has yearly registration as a maximum term

Did a Release of Information Request for the vehicle to get some vague history about the cars registration, poor girl hasn't seen a road in 20 years.

I only have its Queensland History starting from 21st of January, 1985. Whether its prior history was lost in the system and its always been in QLD, or it started its life in another state, I don't have the rest of the history but it would be cool to find it out

The same plates it was cancelled with in 2005 are still on it now, so the car hasn't done much (apart from rust) in the last 20 or so years it seems

If there is one thing I can say, is that apart from someone's attempt at forced entry into the Boot, it is straight and accident free

Needs some love around the original lock hole but does the trick at this stage
