No I haven't done the swap. I have a 63A box for an A Series already. I bought it online for US$35 in Cincinnati OH and I had a friend ship it to Australia, probably 12 or 14 years ago. The freight cost me $250 back then!

I don't have a soltion to your dilemna other than to suggest that you use the 63A yourself. They have slightly better ratios than a 60 series box and they're much more robust. Plus I like the dogleg shift - mostly because it's different

@TexasMidget
Unfortunately you're in the wrong country. Your 63A box is worth good money in Australia.
The guy who wants to acquire a 63A box for his 510 is in the wrong country. 63A box for an L Series are dirt cheap here.
Anyone in Australia who would like to acquire a 63A box to put behind their A Series engine is in the wrong country. I reckon you would have to pay A$1200+ to get one.
And anyone who's thinking of shipping a front casing from US to Australia or from Australia to the US is about 12 years too late to get access to reasonable postage charges or surface postage rates. (sigh)

63A gearboxes for an L Series engine are NOT UNCOMMON in Australia, but 63A gearboxes for an A Series are NOT AT ALL COMMON in Australia. If you have an A Series box, you need an L Series front casing and the L Series input shaft. If you can't get the L Series parts in the US, I'm sure someone in Ausrtalia will swap you the parts for your A Series front casing and input shaft. I do recollect that some models of the later series 510 sedan might have been fitted with a 63A box in the US. I'm sure someone will know. The 63A (dogleg) transmission was fitted to both 180B coupes and also Stanza SSS models in Australia, both with L Series engines and they are (reasonably) available here. I don't know of any Datsun model sold in Australia that had an A Series engine and a 63A gearbox.

...and could fit a centre section of a bumber bar in their boot? I'm needing to send it to someone in Adelaide and it's too long (by 20 cm ) to go by Aust Post. I'm sure the guy I'm sending it to would collect from you anywhere in Adelaide and I could drop it of to you

My KB10 has a tow bar, but it needs the actual "tongue" part of the towbar as it only ends with a plate which has two threaded holes. I'm guessing that you can't just pick one of them up at your local supercheap or repco. I have found a pic of a caravan that I could tow if I cound get the missing part of the towbar:

You can also use a 6-cylinder car it will just read 2/3 of normal

Or will it?

Does it count the number of pulses received from the coil and divide by 4 (or 6 or 8?) and display that as rpm? Actually it would divide by 2, 3 or 4 as there are 4 pulses per 2 revolutions with a 4 cylinder engine (4 cylinders, and 2 revolutions in a 4 cycle engine).

Try it and see?

I have looked online and (Italian-made) 42dcoes seem to command some ridiculous prices. I reckon they're worth $750 (carbs and manifold). They have been sitting in a locker in the carport for a lomg time, and they came off a running but slightly rusty Sunny coupe which I dismantled. I took the shell to a recycling depot -but it was close to 10 years ago! It had an A15 which had been fairly well warmed over, but had a small hole in the top of one of the pistons. I can check out the choke sizes if you're interested.
