According to Ron Johnson at Nissan Motorsports, that neat little airdam was made by Kamei and they discontinued them quite a while ago so they're NLA, at least from Nissan anyway. Andy - you might be able to pick one up on the net somewhere. Anyone else - if you have one, this would be a great money-making opportunity if you have an original - then you can just have a local fiberglass or boat shop make up copies...Should be enough of us 1200 owners to justify making up a few... Hi, Slim! Unfortunately, I live in the U.S. so that amount would be in USD. The Fax # is (310) 538-1462. Make it attention to Ron Johnson - he's their resident 1200 expert (won several SCCA championships!) and a real nice guy! Good luck! Roland
Andy - if you're in the market for a new distributor, Nissan motorsports has brand-new GX distributors for about $35-40 in stock. Your local dealer should be able to order one for you...Hope this helps. Roland
Thought I'd mention that Ratdat has a 1200 tach for sale @ EBay. Current price is only $10.00 (!) Just punch in "Datsun 1200" into search and it'll come right up...regards, Roland
I just wanted to thank all of you who took the time to respond to my post on the above topic. Thanks to you, I've now got a lot more confidence and info to tackle this! I think a lot of really good info came out of this thread - a good example of how a newsgroup is supposed to work. Thanks again - I've gotta go turn some wrenches now. I'll let you know how it went...Roland
Ok, it's probably been said before, but I need your help, guys! I have a chance to pull an entire A14 & 5-speed from a 1980 210 sedan. I would like to drop this combination into a '71 1200 coupe. A "friend" tells me that'll I'll need to fabricate a new crossmember to accomodate them and that "it's a pain in the butt and you shouldn't bother." But I've read a lot of the posts here, so I know a lot of you are doing it - and that it's worthwhile for extra cubic inches if nothing else. So exactly what's involved - what do I have to do? Can it be a bolt-in if I have the right motor mounts, etc.? ( Oh, yeah - did I mention that the A14 & trans are FREE!) Thanks in advance for any advice.....Roland
Mark - drop me a line, too, if you would and let me know how much you're looking for. I live on the Eastside and it would be no problem hooking up with you. My email is dferg@nwlink.com. Thanks, Roland
Hi, Mark - Let me know how much you want for that speedo. I live on the Eastside and it would be no trouble to hook up w/you. My email is dferg@nwlink.com....Thanks, Roland
Andy - I think the reason it "craps out" out at high rpm may be that your fuel pump is incapable of providing enough volume at those rpms and you're experiencing mild fuel starvation. All 1200's I know that ran any kind of serious motor ran a good electric fuel pump and a large fuel filter. The stock filter would be the first thing I would toss as it's cheap - a fuel pump is more $$$ but you will want one eventually. Make sure the filter is from a nice big V-8 and you'll be ok. If it responds to that in the upper rpm's, then you'll know you're on the right track. You may also want to go up to the next larger size fuel line, because the problem is probably volume, not pressure, remember? I hope this helps. - Roland
RM, I just live down in Bellevue, so it'd be no problem for us to hook up! Give me a call at either of the #'s I e-mailed to you. Looking forward to hearing from you.
