My annual budget is usually about 2500 a year for the 4-5 events and any goodies I might want..............................well a deal came my way and I got excited and spent up near half in one fell swoop, on non Datsun stuff to boot. I riding buddy was selling his 96 KTM 300 EXC, which is plated (road registered), so unable to resist a 50 hp 240lb dual sport bike...........I parted with $900 (a good deal), this just a week after a track day, add a new front tire and fork seals and well 2 months into the year and I'm half way through the annual budget. Er did I mention I also have a 76 YZ125 and a 2001 YZ125................a clear case of premature accumulation.....................I could have bought some roller rockers and a new cam (but that still wouldn't match the thrill of the KTM)

I have realized that when it comes to buying datto spares you generate money out of thin air if the price is right. And the forgivenes thing so so true!

1000coupe: the great thing about the KTM 300 models is they have a very broad powerband so you just don't rev them. I rode the bike about 2 years ago and I thought something was wrong with it becuase the big hit never seemed to happen........................then I looked over my shoulder and my buddy was 1/4 mile behind me on his YZ250 which feels much faster, throw in the Ohlins suspension and it's so easy to hustle down trails........................both my 125 Yamaha's have shorter maintenance intervals and as with all 1 2 5's you need to ride your arse off.

Buy now think later..............should become a motto for Datsun parts whores.

sure they dont dominate the dakar for the last few years for nothing, but i found in junior motoX (not me riding lol) and lots of others who got one cos they were the most competetive bike that parts like clutches and forks and chain tensioners were not lasting long and expensive to replace.

Small bore MX bikes 60-85cc take a beating between the motors turning 12-14K and 8-12 years nailing big doubles the bikes take a pounding, then through in dad building holy hand grenade motors. Think of a 1200 turning 10,000 RPM's driven buy someone who power shifts up and down through the box AND pounds over all the kerbs.................the kids are brutal on the stuff. I know as they come smoking past me at the local MX track...............it's like being in a Porsche 911 and have a stock 1200 go roaring past!!!
