Ive had a search around and havnt found a couple of answers, so here goes. For the Ratwagon that will have a A12. Then maybe the red wags with the A15 when its all sussed

1) Can you run fuel through a SC12/SC14 like a suck through turbo system? Or do you need carbon seals like a turbo too?
2) Any reason i cant use a 2" SU? I have one in the shed previously a A14 turbo setup.
3) Is it really worth decompressing a A series (A12) and running higher boost? Or keep the standard comp and run 10psi max?
4) What have people done balancer wise? Use a vannette balancer with the extra pullys? Will that stuff up the pully ratio on the S/C though?
5) SC12 or SC14 for a A12? Or other?

Any other advice would be tops! Its just gonna be a fun little project

Yes, you can suckthrough pretty much any carb. Blown motors aren't as suseptiable to the problems that turbo motors carbs are. cos the boost comes on instantly.
You may as well run it undecompressed to start with. Water injection can work wonders to limit detonation, and can be home made for peanuts.
The twin pulley crank pulley isn't really suitable as a blower drive. I run a custom crank pulley. The twin pulley ones are hollow inside the outer pulley, so you can't really turn off the outer pulley and bolt a blower drive pulley to the inner one.

The S/C series blowers are nice and cheap, as well as compact. But don't expect too much from them. They do go alright, but I wouldn't advise running too much boost cos they make lots of heat once you get over about 8psi.

Cheers for that info.
How did you get the pully made? All from scratch and machined up? Or a PK pully welded to the front and balanced?

Also can you turn these blowers on their side? Or upside down?

I went out and placed the SU in the engine bay this morn and it looks like there will be JUST enough room for the blower. Thinking of mounting it like grunterhunters setup(is he still around? Its a neat ute).

What are some other non Toyo blowers that are out there that arnt stupid expencive?

I reckon the SC12 would be fine for a A12. They can be used upside down but I would recommend redrilling the oil feed holes for the bearings if you do. I had to mount one upside down recently for a customer. Also the drive spline for the pulley is tapered you will have to adapt it to the new pulley. And they re not happy over 12 psi boost the teflon rotor coating starts to delaminate and melt.

I read somewhere that running fuel through a toyota blower eats away the teflon coating.

Go turbo, much better ;)

My pulley is fully scratch built. I originally had a full aluminium front pulley. But when I pulled that motor down, the pulley had split through the trough of the keyway. It was guite thin through there on account of there being a spedy sleeve over it to prevent the timing cover seal wearing the aluminium seal journal down.
On my current engine, the centre boss is all steel, with the crank pulley, and blower drive pulley being made of aluminium, and bolted to the boss. That make sense?

A mate of mine has a RWD 323 wagon running an S/C12 on 1400cc sohc motor. it did make 7psi on a 1:1 ratio. He then went to a 170mm drive pulley, (Blower pulley is 125mm) and the boost jumped to 13.5. But it was acompanyed by detonation. A simple water injection made from an old washer bottle running 50/50 water meths fixed it.

I was running up to 14psi with my sc12 for a few months and it loved every minute, of course got #### all power coz its an sc12 and they suck :P but yeah all the toyota guys over here say <15psi is pretty safe.

I am a bit confused cos all the SC 12s I've had apart had tapered splined driveshafts? I searched for alternatives a while back as I had to machine some new pulleys for higher boost and ended up making a hub with the toyota centre and a steel inner to bolt the alloy pully to. Do some have keyed drives or did you modify it.?

you can use a machined spacer and fit a EA falcon aircon pulley on a SC12, its supposed to be good for 15psi on a 4agze and you get to keep the clutch.
I pulled apart a VN commo aircon pulley and it looks like a pretty easy thing if you can get a spacer machined up and pressed on.

edit: probably no good as its a 5pk belt. Sorry wasn't thinking about the V-belt.
