but seriously i don't understand the whole i only like one type of car thing, it seems very narrow minded.
and i bought a 1200 ute because i loved the look of them and my mate took me around the racetrack in his and was sideways everywhere with an a14. it is practical to an extent because i've driven it to the coast and you can fit everything in the back plus heaps of gear for other people but with the current paint job etc. i'm way to paranoid to park it almost anywhere lol.

I have owned some sort of Dtasun in the past 22 yrs and I think they are all individually unique. After having 1600's in the late 80's and early 90's I then drove a bluebird turbo for 5 yrs and then drove a 1200 ute for 11 yrs which I still own. The diference between the old datsun owners compared to the new generation is I find that not many new generation are doing a lot of the work themselves and in particular the 1600 owners but are happy to pay someone thousands of dollars to modify or paint there car for them and then either sell it half finished or straight away becuase they lose interest. The reason I have kept my 1200 ute is to try and teach some basic automotive knowledge to my 8 yr old son so he can learn to appreciate classic cars.

by PIGDOG on 2009/2/2 13:50:59 datsun just copied the bmw, then for some strange reason went on to slaughter the said bmw with that copy in rallying

That's true... but mostly because BMW motorsport were too busy turning their new (1974) 3 series into this...

In any case... it speaks volumes that I am currently driving my 1200 coupe, while my '78 323i sits in the shed!! The 1200s economy is just too good, and it's just too much fun to drive (and no 1600s for me... the 323i kicks the crap outta that... just as light, 150hp stock, solid build quality - the 1600 is a billy cart by comparison).

I love all datsuns but have you ever seen a nice original 1600? I don't think they exist anymore. As a project prospect they're very hard to find in complete original condition (by 1200wag)

Here's pics of my Original Datsun 1600/510, Original 75,000 miles, original L16 engine with original owners manual and purchase documents and selling dealers sticker on rear window (and we also have the old school original front windscreen visor/granny visor) This 1600 will only ever be kept in its original condition, original paint colour, original engine etc. if the engine or anything else needs repairing it will be repaired and kept original still as one day this may even be a museum car as they are extremely hard to find like this as alot of 1600's were rallied and damaged, I am not just a 1600 fan, I love anything to do with Datsun, its just that I grew up with my father and mates rallying them and that I know more about the 1600 because of that and so that's whey they are my preference.

Finally worked out how to attach photos to the Datsun 1200 website so here's just a few of my pride and joy :)

Cheers Miss Datsun
