Does anyone know where or who I can buy a L series engine from, preferrably L18 or L20B. I am convinced this is the smartest way to go for my 1979 Datsun 1200 ute, and I am going to try and do the work myself, so be prepared for a lot more questions!

should be easyenough to get, but from memory your better of with the L18 as the L20 is taller and becomes hard to fit. think L18's can be bored to an L22 anyhow?

Yes, check the classifieds. You want a 180B or 200B (Datsun 610) that is for sale cheep. Could be rusty, you just want the running gear.

Cheers for getting back to me, I am very interested but I just need to have a bit of a shop around locally first before making a decision! How much would it cost to get it over to WA?

no idea...never had an engine shipped before
think my brother got a whole engine and box with a heap of extras from NSW to VIC for around $100...but thats alot shorter distance

no great rush to sell it really...might go back into the wagon for a bit after rego depending on how far i go with the CA rebuild, and how long i can stand driving round with an A12
