Where in Australia can I buy new headbolts and rodbolts for my little A-series. A set of each plus freight from
the States pretty painful.
Any ideas ????
Every engine reconditioner I have asked has laughed at me.
All you guys with these Brutal A14's & 15's must have got them from somewhere.
Pleeezzzzz help.......
James

Hey everyone. I just drove about 1,200 miles in my 1200 and halfway it started chugging oil and smoking badly. I pulled the spark plugs and the #3 one was covered in oil so I shined a
flashlight in there and the piston is cracked. It hasn't separated apart yet, but I'm sure it will if I drive it any more. Anyways, what would cause a 4 year old piston to crack like
that??? I'm running stock compression, and I know that the car was not leaned out too much. Any thoughts/guesses would be appreciated. I wonder if I could get away with just replacing
that one piston with the exact same kind (assuming the cylinder walls aren't messed up). It'll probably throw the balance job up a bit, but should fix it temporarily right???

i had a cracked piston too. except a chunk had come off and placed itself between the head and the piston. the bore was scored too badly, if it had not been, i had the option of
replacing the piston with a second hand one. your bore should be ok, open it up anyways and have a look. whatever u do dont drive it, u dont want to have the same thing happen to u.
i had to get another engine altogether as it was cheaper than doing work to the stuffed a12.

Andy,Depending on the carbs, you could have melted a piston down far enough to weaken it and crack it.Don't drive it,because little piece will go through the oil pickup screen
and get pumped into all the bearings. You may want to pull the oil pan and check the mains and rod bearing for signs of metal going pass them.

I don't plan on driving it anywhere before taking it into the garage to fix it. When I looked at the piston through the spark plug hole it didn't look like it was melted down at all
anywhere, just cracked! It seems like it started out small though. The new pistons are coming in soon, hopefully the cyl. wall, rings, bearings are ok. This gives me a chance to put in
some ARP rod/main/head bolts and have the rods resized, shotpeened and all re-balanced. I'll let everyone know how it goes!
