CA18, 4AGE, FJ20 or SR20?

What are the options?

Except for the FJ, those are the traditional swaps. For something alternative, try the Nissan QR20DE (instead of SR20DE) or GA16DE VCT (instead of 4A-GE) or the JZ six

The JZ (1JZ or 2JZ) is a very short six-cylinder engine, so aside from cutting out the tunnel and re-covering it, including a portion of the firewall, it's much like any other engine swap. I see that your'e in Australia, so under NCOP is would need to be engineered under ICV rules

That's the main reason the smaller 1.8 turbo or 2.0 non-turbo engine swaps are so popular in Australia

V8 swaps into 1200s are more popular in Australia than in other countries, so for drag racing/burnout comps/off-road that's another way to go

Of the four you listed, the FJ20 is the most tough looking, but an SR20DE actually similar power in stock form (FJ20E: 148 hp, SR20DE 140-169 hp). The SR20 is lighter too

Well that rules out the FJ20 and SR20. Of the other two, the CA18 is slightly more powerful than the 4A-GE. Keep it real, keep it all Nissan

Ah, I see you modified your comment. Yes, those look to be the same NCOP guidelines all the states are going by

So all the options are open

I was talking with a guy here in the states who put a GM V6 engine into a 1200. Didn't see photos though.

Yeah, GM 3.8 V6 into 1200 is fairly common, fit much better than the smaller ford 2.8 V6

Even better is the "Darwin Swap", they did a lot of them, street legal too with the Nissan VG20 V6

Surprisingly enough there are no modifications to make in the engine bay apart from a few mountings that need to be installed to mount additional control gear.

I have helped fit a Vg20 V6 into a 1200 ute it fited quite well. It had to have a larger tunnel [1200 automatic tunnel] fitted and custon extractors to clear the steering.
