I would say the FJ20 then the 13B then the SR20DET, But I would suggest something a bit different like a twin turbo 32 valve Lexus V8 or a 2.4L Turbo Isuzu 4 cylinder

Ahhhh the Holy Grail, a low 10 second car for beer money. Let us know how you get on with this project as we all would like to save a buck with high performance cars. Hell, I know I would.

For a few dollars more, you could have this 9 second car instead. It's for sale on ebay right now & it's a whole second quicker than your target. It's low mileage & is driven only on Sundays by a carefull owner.
The current price is a little over $7,000 Au. What a bargain.
