Hello everyone. My name is Gerry. I am new to this forum and want to express my gratitude to all members for letting me be a part of this forum.
I just recently adquired a 1972 Datsun 1200 sedan, and since I am more of a Toyota person (owning 2 1967 Toyota Corona RT43's) wanted to become a member to gain better knowledge of these awsome japanese cars.
This is the first time I have owned one, and am very inexperienced when it comes to the Datsun.
Hopefully I can Get some help from some of you folks.
I have not received my car yet. It is being delivered to me from SO.CAL, USA. I live in New England.
Can't wait toll it gets here.

Just to let you guys know,my girfriend and I work on vinyl lettering and decals ,
Custom vectorized artwork . We use to sell on Ebay under the store name LisasDecals.

We still have many decals like these and also other styles

Hi Gerry,
Welcome to the club.
I'm sure you are excited about your new purchase.
It looks like it needs a little work.
I like the 1200 in your decal.
Regards Simon

Tom here in Vegas..............I once was a Toyota mechanic , you will find the Datsun a little easier to work on then Toyota and a Toyota is pretty straight forward as you know.
Since you are in New England rust is likely your biggest enemy , Datsun chassis are very rigid but the sheet metal is thin so you'll not want to drive it on salted roads etc.
Also you'll find there are lots of upgrades for the car as Datsun parts a very interchangeable. I've raced the little coupe for 18 years ro so now and we've owned it since 1985 or so. Great little cars you'll have fun with it. Check the tech section for all the things that can be done. Finally the cars are now vintage road race legal and 1200's have a great racing history (lots of SCCA championships) , they also make fun H-stock cars at your local autocross.

Hi Simon & Tom.
So i've heard great things about these cars, I can't wait to get started on it.
I am not much of a race person, so I just want to make sure it runs good, and maybe paint it.

Here in Massachusetts you do not see many classic imports. You cannot find any parts at the junkyards either, and the rusting issue is a nightmare among all New Englanders.

My friend has a 1980 Datsun 210 he is parting out and he offered me his tranny and motor along with a set of headers, but I have to do some research to see if
this motor could fit my 1200 with little or no modifications.

Regards,
Gerry

Gerry yes indeedy the motor and trany fromthe 210 will fit your 1200. The 210 should have an A14 (1400cc) vs the A12 and it may have a 5 speed. Check the tech section but the only big mod is a minor change to the motor mounts............it's a real easy swap and very common.
Putting in the A14 will give you a 10-13hp boost depending on the which cylinder head it has. The header and a 2 inch exhaust will boost it further and I'm assuming you don't have to smog the 1200 so add a weber DGEV 32/36 and you may have your 1200 up to a whooping 85 to 90 Hp which is pretty good since the stock 1200 has 68HP.
For suspension some sway bars from addco , good shocks/dampers and a set of 175/60 13 tires and you'll have a car that is quite fun to drive.

Thanks for the info!
I will see how the cars engine turns out once it gets here. The good thing about Mass. and old cars, is that they do not require emmissions.
I have the feeling that once the car gets here, people are going to want to buy it from me. These cars are extremely rare around here, and the only ones I have seen are gutted out and used for racing.
Not a lot of people on the East Coast want to make any afforts in having a vehicle shipped from the West Coast to the East Coast. They rather pay for it once they see it here in New England instead of going thru all the hassle of adquiring it out of state.
As far as the stickers go, we can make any year mke and model, color and size.
I also have the 510 decal, and the 78ish B210 ( not well familiarized with the car model codes)
Regards

It's been 3 years since I bought my 1200 sedan. This is how it looks as of today. I still have more work to do. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c363/lisasdecals/IMG_0471.jpg Open in new window
