I believe one should do a "Hello world" for cars too, so this is it...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8FtXscqUKM

I had some issues with the dizzy. We actually tried starting it last Friday(me and my dad, he was visiting from Capetown), but everything was as dead as a doornail. I go some advice from Chris Dicks from Dicktator, and he recommended that I short the signal wire to ground, to see if everything was connected properly. I did, and the pump, injectors and spark fired right away. Monday I took the dizzy and TCI in to a dizzy shop, and they both worked.

I then took the ECU through to Dicktator, and they checked it out ok. However, the guy(Chris Dick) said that they had issues with the optical pickups, as they don't switch to ground properly(I didn't have it with though). I then went back to the a$$holes at ABL Performance, and asked them for assistance as I bought the optical one from them for R720, plus trade in!!! I will never ever recommend them to anyone, the guy had a real ####ty attitude when I spoke to him, even though I spent in excess of R10000 with them for other parts, he gave me the impression that he couldn't give a #### fcuk them

I asked around, and someone said that I should convert the original dizzy and it's magnetic pick-up o work with the ECU. I went to Dicktator again(this time with the dizzy). Chris swapped me for one that was done already, he charged me R65. He even loaded the latest firmware onto the box, and added some parts that are put in the newer boxes(I bought this one last year April, and haven't used it yet until now). I connected the lot tonight, and the video speaks for itself...

I will recommend anyone to go to Dicktator, they are very helpfull, and their after sales services seems to be top end stuff.

I hope to drive it a bit this weekend, to get the zorst fitted, so that it can be taken for a dyno. Car is basically finished, just need to fit the dash, everything works on there except the fuel guage. Also the other front seat, rear's will stay out for now, o and the alternator still needs to be connected.

Thanks, and I will. I started it properly for the first time 23H30 last night, after giving it a few guns, and making the video, I was shaking with excitement.

This damn thing revs like a motorbike engine, I can only see that I'm going to have trouble with traction...

Fuel and timing maps are totally out for this motor, the default ones are for a NA 2 liter Mazda motor. It over fuels completely, and it won't idle at all, I don't know enough about setting ECU's yet to be able to do thumb suck adjustments, so I'm hoping I could get maps for another 4AGZE of someone. That should be closer, and a good starting point.

Mmmmm, sometimes it pays to listen to the ECU guy... When he gave me the dizzy, he said that the rotor phasing should be ok, and gave me a crash explanation on how to check it, and that I should set it if it's not lekker. Got home, checked, and it seemed to be out, and I adjusted it...

After wondering if I did it correctly I read up on the net a bit, and figured out, that the rotor, in crankshaft degrees, was 40 degrees to fast, and on the dizzy 20 degrees.

So after setting it properly, it now idles like a frisky kitten, and none of the black bilging smoke plumes. Then it starter to smoke like crazy, and I though that I have some trouble. Then it occurred to e that I stuck a plug in the breather and taped it shu with insulation tape. You know, to keep the gremlins at bay...

It made a nice hissing sound when I pulled it out, and then it sopped smoking. I let it idle 'till it was about 1/4 on the heat guage, and shut it down. It's 23H30 again after all...

Will let it run to full operating temp tomorrow, and check that he thermo comes on, and he water circulates properly.

Lekker, lekker, soon I'll be ripping hose ugly old 165's to shreds...

Mmmmm, so last night I couldn't resist taking it out for a spin around the block, even though the alternator didn't charge properly. Charged the battery a bit, and drove off, it wasn't really successful because it started to spatter and wouldn't really rev up. Boost also didn't come in.

Tonight I figured out how the alternator should be connected to charge, and also saw that I never put the one boost pipe back into the IC last time I took it off. Put that back on, and checked the fuel, saw that it was empty, and decided that since everything is working, and the car is roadworthy, I might as well drive it too the garage and fill it up. There's an Engen around the corner that sells 95 unleaded.

Man o, man, stupendous is maybe not the right word to describe the feeling when the boost comes in at around 3.5k. It's even better, things happens so fast that I can't keep my eyes on the dials, and only when I conjured up the nerve and the road was long enough did I realize that after 3.5k it jumps straight to 1.5 bar, and all hell brakes loose, wheels break traction, and car starts going sieways...

*rrrrrppppkbamwoooooosh* Funny thing is, it's not even at full throttle, probably between a 1/4 and a 1/3. Tune is also obviously not right, as it sometimes backfires a bit when taking of, but it should be close as I found a map for another turbo'ed 4A-GZE, that runs 0.5 bar. Will have the boost turned down to 0.5 for now, until I know the engine and everything holds together. Didn't want to put foot, as I was afraid of breaking it, but it still boosted and went like hell. Can you see me smiling...

Brakes are pulling up very well, no pulling to one side or the other. But I can feel that the alignment is out, not much, but enough to pull it ever so slightly to the left. Will have that sorted tomorrow after exhaust. Diff was a concern also, but it's quiet, and no winning or protest from that area. Gearbox also feels very smooth, and changes are quick and firm. No water leaks, anymore, and oil seems to stay in the engine where it belongs. Had a bit of white piping on the breather outlet, and no noticeable oil came out there. Verdict, engine and drive train seems to be in good health.

Anyway, I finally found rubbers for the rear window, so I'll be taking it for exhaust tomorrow or Thursday, depending on who can help me, and try to find someone to dyno it on Friday.

Will keep you posted.
