Just for the heck of it I was wondering what you guys would buy if you had $20,000.
A mate of mine has to buy a car for his wife, she wants something "adult" and sensible, 4 cylinder, 4 door, auto.
I told him that my money would go on a newish toyota camry.
What would you buy???

the cheapest and cleanest 1200 coupe i could find. got a dirt cheap a15 and 5 speed. ute diff etc. go to town on suspension, a15 etc. Dattos are cheap, as long as you have a solid base i rekon you wouldnt need to spend to much to get something really amazingly dope.
New cars are lame

In ten years if you invested it you would get close to 40,000

if you spent 10000 on a very standard very good nick datsun it might be worth 15000+ in 10 years time and you would have fun and 10,000 to blow

what size car do they need, the newer and bigger or a 5 door hatch.

Big cars go for a 2nd hand xt falcon for $14k, or magnas are always cheap but a very good car post 2000.

other wise good family hatchs are similar to n16 pulsar (very underated car but very good) also mazda 323 post 2001 especially the sp20. but i also think the mitsubishi lancer wagons are good value and safe/economical for around $15k. that was my pick but wife prefered forestor, at least i talked my way into the gt.

my pick foz for fun or lancer wagon for sensible.

Nope, none of that!I would do what i did last time, get a decent jap ute, good tandem trailer to put the race cars on and carry all the camping gear to the meetings and enjoy myself.
Of late i can't see the point in spending good money on a nice car you can't use to it's potential for fear of adding revenue to state coffers. Simon, you got that wagon going yet?

Edit: Dual Cab Ute

Hey Bert, I'm loving the replies so far.
The wagon is on the road and ready for the first outing on the drag strip. I can tell everyone that a locked diff is a really bad idea for road use. No where near ready for circuit though
