Seeing PRO12T boost around the suburbs near my mates house just after it got bought from Sydney. Like Wolki101 just loved everything about them, the shape, the stance, how fast it was it was just a sweet car!

Also coming across them on the internet. The more I saw them the more I liked them.

Does anyone get sick of being approached by strangers and being asked if they wanna sell there datto?

Nah, I love the fact I have a car people want. To think I bought my ute for $2k (spent only another $1k on making it reliable) and it turns more heads then any ricer in our area is testament to how good 1200s are.

When I bought my first datto I was looking for something small and old. I'm a V8 man at heart, but with a young family and commuting to work in peak hour traffic an old Falcon was out of the question. I looked at various old four pots, cortina's, corolla's, celica's, but the 1200 sucked me in. It just looked so much better than all the others, even with the rust.

Now that I've owned a couple I think I'll always own one. I'd love to have a couple around for my kids when they start to drive, perfect first car. They're cheap to run and insure, easy to work on and parts are plentiful, plus they draw attention in the school carpark.

God bless the mighty 1200!!

About '84 or '85 I only had a motorcycle fro transportation, it broke. I worked for a Porsche dealer and they had a 2dr 1200 sedan on the used lot for $300.00. I bought that ride and then went to work at a Nissan dealer in '86 and have been doing that since. Sold that 2 dr to my best friend in '89 he put the motor and trans into a coupe shell and gave it back to me in '05 so now I have a coupe after 20 some odd years. Along the way I also had a 510 (1600) wagon and a 510 2dr.
Get my Datsun/Nissan fix just about every day.

My mum had a 1200 wagon as her daily for years, i remember going to soccer in it, to and from school etc. it was the first car i drove (sitting on my old mans lap) when i was about 8 or 9 years old, around the paddock. Then mum bought a new car and the wagon got handed down to me. So have very fond memories of it, and made me love it so much more! i just love old school stuff really?! But ya can't beat a Datto.

My first car in high school was a Datsun 210 (B310 to most of you) 2dr sedan. It was indestructible, and started my love affair with Dattos. My first one I modified was a '71 510, and have had over 25 Dattos since then, 17 of those being 510s. A friend in the Datsun club brought a 1200 Coupe ot our Datsun Club meet in '99 (the infamous Chickenhawk) and I was in lust at first sight. I bought one shortly after that and have had 3 so far. My current one will be the best of the 3, and problably the best of all my Datsuns so far.

Well after looking on the net for "cool" cars at the age of 11 i found a mazda b1800 ute with airbags the lot and thought it was pretty sweet, so I told my dad about it and he thought I was talking about a 1200 ute so he continued on to tell me that when he was at tech as a mechanic he had to rebuild an a a12 in a 1200 ute he said after rebuilding the a series he could make it idle at 600rpm while the other tech boys didnt even know it was started they went to start it to hear the starter motor gear and flywheel conflict as it was already running and he said it did 100mph from the factory so as amazed as I had become with this story I looked up the 1200's on the net and came across this site learning more and more about them until I absolutely fell in love with them, buying my 1200 sedan about 3 months agointo which I am putting an l series!

Also we have owned three 120y's which dad drove at 100mph on several occasions dad also speaks of how they rev but the l series is for me torque!

wow how lucky is Luke to have a partner who wants to restore a datto. My wife curses the thing. My first datto experince was when i was very young and dad traded in his blue Monaro 327 GTS on a new 1600 in mustard...Mum couldnt handle the power of the Monaro..I have slides of myself in the back of this pristine datto..Fast forward to late 80's and i started work in Nissan dealership in parts.Used to get all kinds of rally guys bugging me for SSS parts which some were still available around the place as NOS.I bought a pristine C210 2 door skyline some old ducks had(5 speed)You could eat off this thing!I think i paid $1500 for it.Anyway a friend sold me a 1600 sedan with cancer and running on 3 cylinders so then i was hooked on the smaller cars.We had a 1200 ute as the delivery ute which was always fun.early to Mid 90's i moved to the Gold Coast still with nissan and helped importers decipher compatible aussie parts with overseas parts for their imported business that was in its infancy then.I missed out buying a fabulous Prince Skyline that they had in the showroom that was traded from somewhere and i remember how similar to my 510 it was but the long 6 cyl snout on it.To me a 510 was always the primo but after seeing this white 1200 sedan for sale i fell in love again.Working on it has been a joy and i agree that there is some sort of datto sickness as i like nearly any old datto.I still like the round tail lamps of the Prince to the 510 or 210 lamps.

Hi all,
I have owned datto's most of my life starting with a bluebird 1200's (still have) ute then 1000 sedans (all gone) & 1200 ute today. My family has had datto's since they was brought to oz by SIR Lance hartlett in 1960 in oz. My father worked at the first Victorian counrty dealer for datto's, Coles Motors Colac. My father did remember when he first drove one & got booed for driving it. Those persons who did that later started driving them. . .? History is lovely. Stay safe everyone Bruns

My first car was a 510. After helping a friend as an official for the old PRC rally I met this little 120Y sedan that had a little dog mounted to the windscreen. I asked 'what is that for' and the guy just said 'you'll find out. At the end of the fifth stage the 120Y came into sight and as the car came into view I heard a dog barking, as I squinted to get a better look at the front of the car a jet of water came from the dog's crutch and went all over me! I hope it was only water...

Years later my neighbour had a mad 1200 ute, red with charcoal globe mags, very worked A14 with twin webers and a dog leg 5 speed. I bought a coupe a few months as I loved the shape so much. It has been an affair with the A series ever since. Mostly 120Y's these days.
