Hi,

Finally a post outside of "Announcements, bugs and suggestions"! Which is good to go back to why the whole Datsun thing started for me and should help with motivation for the other things

After many years of thinking original is good, I've took on the simple project (when compared to the engineering marvels of some members) of converting the old datto to a single weber A14.

The first idea is to have it running on a single weber DCOE 40, with the std cam, some head work and a better exhaust ... add a LSD diff and hope to have some sideways fun with the 165/70 12" tires.

The second idea is to replace the weber with fuel injection and megasquirt, and have it all, performance, low rev cruising, low consumption and low pollution.

Well, I started with taking the thing apart and done some surgical head work here the first pics ...

... and the first doubts, any idea on how this weber will work with the engine as I described it?

Model 40
Sub model 32
part number 19550.043
Choke 32
Aux. Venturi 4.5
Main Jet 130
Emulsion Tube F9
Air Jet 200
pump jet 35
Idler jet 50F8
pump bleed 60
needle valve 150
float level 8.5/15
(intended use) Alfa 1750

Thanks!

daniel

That 40DCOE should be fine, I ran an A12 with a single 45DCOE between 1985 & 1987 & it had no problems. Looking at your main jets & air corrections, I think you should reduce the size of both. That's a lot of fuel going through an engine, even if it is in the correct air/fuel ratio. the rest seems fine. That manifold looks a bit short, though you do have a master cylinder in the way. the mainfold I had was the same style, the runners were just a bit longer. it was probably a bit better for low down response. If you could install a little cam it wouldn't hurt. The factory 70 degree cam is what I'd recommend. It's a little warmer than a GX cam, but still makes streetable torque.
PS change the needle & seat to a 2.0,this'll allow more fuel into the carb, never hurts to have more supply than demand.

32mm chokes should be very good for A14. Go for plan #1 the Weber 40.

DanielBlues where did you get that single weber manifold?

I'm starting a project with an A15 for my 1200

Hi,
I've bought it here http://www.topendperformance.com/.

This was the quote from them, I don't know if it still valid.

Quote:
One - Datsun a14 single weber Manifold and Linkage kit (K625) - $189
Two - Rebuild Kits - $64
Two - Jet Caps - $32
Shipping - $69

Maybe you can get a lower shipping with out the other weber parts.

Hi,

Just a progress report, I've finished the light head port and polish and my mechanic went on is own to assemble the bottom... I was hopping to do it my self and learn something, but can complain, it looks good!
Next it's the Weber rebuild and some compression calculations.

Here are some pics:
