I have just seen a gearbox for sale on Flebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... geName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123

I am clearly no expert but a guy I know told me it will bolt up to an A12
I am running an A15 with an A12 flywheel, clutch etc.

Will it bolt straight up? Or is there a simple mod ?
From my reading the answer is a Big NO.

I would love to learn that it will.

I am really keen to put a 5 speed into my little car, but I don't want to get ripped off again. I paid a big price for a gearbox that does not fit... GRRRRR
I have a very nice 5 speed box 63A, It has the bellhousing that suits an L series. From all my reading this is the same box as the 63A for the A series engine but I need the A series bellhousing.
If you have the front bit I am as keen as keen.
Or am I on the wrong track here ?
your thoughts please..

Cheers,

like clyons8 said. no

and the 63a L series box is worth nothing compared to an A series one. Best off trying to get a bellhousing from the US to suit the A series if you really wat a 5 speed. then you have to get the input shaft machined down so that it fits the A series spigot bearing

Cheaper to do an engine conversion to get a 5 speed really

Bellhousing (front case) from A-series 5-speed starts at $200 here.

What we need to do is figure out which common 5-speed can be used with a simple adapter plate... that is the traditional way to swap transmissions.

Possibly could use 8mm thick steel plate with countersunk bolts. Bolt the plate to the engine, and the transmission to the plate. Voila. A bit a machining is required but could be done with hand tools.

Hi,

I have a 60's series 5 speed that i bought...
It fits straight onto my A15 ... not sure if it was modified before I bought it but the tech wiki suggests that they bolt straight on..

DD is onto something ,but what box could we use ?

I thought about getting a 63a from an l series for my motor but instead ive settled for a 60a 4sp and will just run skinny tyres to take the load off the box hahahah

Clearly a spacer plate reduces the need for machining of the input shaft but does that affect clamping force or angles af throw out bearings?
