Initially I built an A12 just to see if the exercise would work... Now it seem that it has....

Eventually I would like to put a good little A15, forged pistons, cam, head mods in it

My next step is to put an A15 bottom end with a cam under it (stocky with new rings and bearings) and see what happens?

You can get more from a CA18 or SR20, but anyone can buy one and bolt bits on, plus I like the idea of a small light weight motor...
Plus the small light weight A12 gearbox is good as its half the size of a SR or CA box...

man i would love to see this setup on an a15!!
Did you make the manifolds or get a fab wroker to make them up?
How easy was the creation of this setup?
Cheers

Topgear, I am running a suck thru su set up (120fly's old one) on an A14. I have a T3 spec sigma set up on mine with a 1 3/4" SU. What size needle are you running in yours? I am just sorting out a clutch issue ( 4 puck ceramic but doesn't seem to clamp?). Well done on the figures. Electronic dizzy or points?

Here is the dyno sheet...

The long figure was the original tune....

The lowest line was when I took timing out...

Green was the first run this time, purple was 1st lot of timing out and the brown was the last timing change....

I dont know what needle is in it, std??

We would pull the needle out, file a small flat on one side to let more fuel get sucked in and try again..., then again, then again etc till we got a reasonable mixture...??
we just used the old points dissy that was in there, removed the vac and mechanical advance and locked it solid....

Trust me there is NO rocket science involved, just simplicity and common sense... Seemed to work....

A mate helped me make the manifolds, it is time consuming so dont think youll do it in a weekend bcos you wont, unfortunately. Realistically probably took about 4-6 weeks of working on it quite regularly....

Dont reinvent the wheel, just get a size that suits you needs...

topgear im impressed....
u have given me some hope for the old a12....
and to think i was going to junk it...

im a little worried how the datto gearbox will stand up with that sort of power..
a friend of mine with a a14 turbo went through 3 gearbox's in three weeks.. he is definatly not smashing the gears as he is still running a standard sedan diff..
id say it was the tourqe that did it..
see how u go.
i hope u have a few spare gearbox's lying around though..

I like it. Lots of work plugging away, but not much money spent. Do you know what A/F ratio you ended up with?
By "took the advance out" do you man advance or retard?
Also when you develop this set up further, I read somewhere that a weber style trumpet has superior flow to the kind you have used.

I've been toying with the idea of building one of these for ages. I have two TD04 turbos too. How does the oil sealing stand up the vaccuum?

Hey topgear is your turbo a TD04L? cause im running the same as that and it looks very impressive the way you set that up especially with the internal trumpets id love to dyno mine but gotta find the time wat boost are you puttin through? WOW my setup isnt as sophisticated lol but its doing the job same as you stock 1200 30yr old pistons they do the best job i reckon i havent done bearings or gasket kit though.Open in new window

That is an awsome result- some of those power curves look lile they are still increasing as well.

You are doing better out of this than most of the A-15's with these mods already!!!

to triple the factory hp with only 15psi and no intercooling is an awsome result.

did you run a stock compression?
what plugs did you run?
What was the final timing?
