Z22 motor from the 83' 200sx

does anyone know the capabilities of this motor? i just got one and its in the process of getting twin weber 45's... will it work? and is it ok if i put in 2-5/8 size plumibing for the exhaust?

They're not a superb motor, basically a big, long stroke thing built to be more concerned with low emmissions than performance.
The US guys did a fair bit with the big Z engines, the later model 12/16 valve heads off the 2.4 should go on.

The US never got the FJ (or the CA I think) so they got stuck with the Z things, and much like the dinosaur pushrod V8's they kept trying until engineering triumphed over physics!

It'll be a real stump puller!

We got the CA20, while you were stuck with the little CA18 down under.


No, it's not a waste of time. It should give you almost double the HP of the Datsun 1200 stock engine, and so if you get the Z22 inexpensively, it's a good way to go. There are pics of one on this site in a 1200, search for chickenhawk.

we have the ca20 in ozz aswell they are not as strong as the ca18

tnx, yup i actually got the whole car for 40000PHP (thats about $780) its was in good condition. its been my project car for almost 3yrs now. ill post some picts when its completed.
