I have so far pulled out my brand new carpet twice in the last few weeks due to the carpet and underlay being soaking wet, driver side and passengers side.
i have found water leaking inside the door panel and it drips inside between the door seals, but the amount of water getting in surely cant be just from that.
does anyone know of common places that water leaks in especially near the bonnet release leaver (RHD car) and somewhere under the dash (i think).
i am really struggling to find out where the water is coming from!
it is winter here in australia and so far it hasnt stopped raining or snowing so i cant drive my car without it filling up with water! i have to resort to the faithful XC Falcon
land barge to get me around!

thanks for any help

Cher bol, i had that, u need a bigger tip! that will fix it, or try cleaning out the hole just behind the mudflap, i cant remember its proper name, but it is all good. yeah, it fills
up with stones/mud/flax and doesn't drain properly. when mine did that i took off the mud flap, and stuck a screw driver and worked the stones loose, and cleaned it all out nice and
proper, i then realised that i had knocked about 2 kg off the weight of my car, so i did the otherside, and picked every stone off the car, this allowed me to fit a bigger tip, and not
gain any weight. :)
yeah, just clean it out and make sure the drain at the bottom is clear and it should be all good! cause if it is blocked just a little bit it all drains into the foot well, not good.
yeah, go hard and all that.
choice from chris.

Simon,
I can't imagine that this is all that likely there as it's probably drier there, but on my 1200s I have found rust down inside the scuttle was usually the cause of big leaks. You get
all old leaves and stuff collect in there and it stays damp all the time. You can usually see any rust from under the dash, although sometimes it can be hard to spot. It can be a
pain in the arse to fix too

Simon - sounds like your fire wall may have rusted through. I have stripped 3 coupes now and currently have two in the garage. Only 1 of the 5 has had a good fireway. The firewall
intersects with the water box and the strut tower chasis rails. If there has been a build up of dirt or leaves at any stage, then the the cancer begins. If it is rusted through, I hope it
is only minor.

you have said your car has been recently resprayed in another coulour , another sugestion could be to check your window /windscreen seals. when i was in the middle of the build of my car i
took my car to a reputable(or i thought so at the time) window tint place . when i got it back and rinsed the car down i found out at closer inspection that they cut the windows out with
what looks like a rasor blad cut and they just put them back in (badly) with crap glue and the now s@#ty rubber witch i renewed when i resprayed my car (dont get any bad ideas when i say i
did the paint, i did it properly) .. the windows then leaked like a sive. i know it was a while ago but until we got this rain we have had a drought. .... ps . to chris i painted my rocker
cover irradesent blue (the same as the car) and it does make a difference, it makes you stay up every night for weeks making the rest of your engine bay look good after having cleanroker
cover make every thing else look dirty

Okay, remember I was asking you guys to help me figure out why my car was misfiring/spitting and sputtering above 5500 rpm before? Well I figured out the other day that my alternator was
going bad. My car has done the same thing before with a bad alternator, so I put a new one in along with a new fuel filter. I drove the car around for a little while, and it was running
really rough. Still doing the pinging stuff, but running rough. I pulled over for a while at idle, and it was smoking up a storm, running really rich. I got home, pulled the intake and
there was a brown oily residue in the intake all the way down into the combustion chamber. I noticed the same type of residue spit out in the engine compartment around the carb openings.
Anyways, the plugs that were reading really perfect (lt. brown) yesterday are now totally black. So, all of the sudden my car is running really rich.

I thought I had a leaking intake gasket that was leaning out the engine at high revs, but now I don't know. My dad suggests a bad head gasket, but everything looks normal. Any
suggestions?

-Andy

So is there an easy way of looking at the firewall to see if it has rusted.
The car is in my garage with the front half of the interior stripped, not including he dash. I have taken the dash out before and that is easy, so if i pull that out will i get a good
look at the firewall?
I have noticed rust at a join under the dash, the seal was leaking so i prodded it with a screwdriver and it started falling off as there is rust underneath. i re-sealed it with REO-FILL
(fibreglass reinforced filler) then added some normal seal around that. i dont know whether that worked or not. i have another car to drive luckily so i can keep the coupe off the road
if nescasary, i want to fix this problem properly!

Thanks for your help

Simon

i think i have the same window seals since my coupe came from the factory. the boot seal (and maybe back window seal) must be gone as the boot also collects a lot of water when it
rains, so they need replacing. the front window seal could also be replaced as when i bought the car the seals were covered in mould and leaf litter. i have plugged gaps with
silicone seal for the meantime.
how much would seals set me back, does anyone know? i am on a tight budget as i still have to pay for the repair to my front end after my crash.

Hi
Rare Spares have all the rubbers and seals you want, but they are'nt cheap. They have a web site with an
on line catalogue.

i think moonah wreckers in austral place was dealing with peter jacksons old rubber co. who specialise in old datsun rubbers were cheaper than rare spares but its
worth ringing around ,another place would be dj's in the city where you can also get genuine brand new panels very cheaply so they should have the geuine rubber too id
