shame you sold that A12GX - they make 83 HP standard the A15 makes 80!

as for that auto:...

the (Jatco 3N71B) was offered in everything from 1200's right up to the Patrol! - yes it was even bolted up to the L28 six cylinder... Not only that, but the 4 speed overdrive w/lockup torque converter model (L4N71B) was fitted to the VL commodore/Calais!

ther is a mob in sydney that sell shift kits and full manual valve body for said auto trannies!

price for the valve bodies is $1000ea

Point of order.
The Datsun 1000 & the 1200 used the Jatco 3N71A trans. The B was introduced in the 120Y.

Does anyone know if the 4N71B trans case will bolt up to the 3N71A/B bellhousing?

nah Anb008: your A14/5 speed 120Y is safe!...

I'd love a nice FS5C60L/FS5W60L but I'm not paying $1000 for a 5 speed as I rarely get to go flat out in 4th let alone 5th!

I was thinking the same thing...

I have 2 3N71B's... but no 4N71B's

actually Dodgeman I like to think the L4N71B would be a better proposition as it has a lock up torque converter!

I was down in pick a part 2 weeks ago and there were no A14's or 15's to be had- the place turns dattos over pretty quickly though, so you might get lucky.

well this is interesting...
I have looked at my engine and it has modified engine mounts to sit the motor back an inch and a bit, the distributor is in the middle of the block and the alternator is on the left hand side I am thinking the engine is an A12 from the 120Y bolted to my 3 speed auto, the auto is awesome and shifts hard with no slippage but is a pain in the ass when your setting off to work on a cold morning and a poorly tuned A12! I have to get the revs up with the accelerator hold he brake down and put her in first or drive so she wont stall on me!
So how can I tell exactly what Auto box I have? I took some pics but the site won't let me upload them?

Good point. I rang an Auto Trans specialist in Sydney that had been recomended by several people that I spoke with & he recomended against the lockup version unless I was running EFI as these things use a small computer to control the lockup feature & they work better when used in conjunction with an ECU,... aparently.
I got the impression that the lockup model would need the original four speed bellhousing to make it all work properly & of course that wouldn't fit my engine.

He recomended that I use a Pintara as a donor vehicle & he said that he believed that the trans case would fit up to the 3N71A/B bellhousing, but he could not be sure, so I will get a spare bellhousing & hit the trans repair shops to find out for sure.
He said that the 4N71B trans case was longer, but the extention housing was shorter, leaving the whole trans at about the same length overall as the three speed.
He also opined that as long as I used the A15 in something as light as a 1200, it would probably work out just fine. The A14 would also be good, but not quite AS good.

A15's are everywhere
I just bought one today
Its attatched to a 1000 wagon though and I'm keeping the whole car for a parts getter and run around
It also came with a granny spec low mile 1000 21 dr sedan that I'm debating what to do with and lots of spare parts (panels)

If I hear of any other big A's around I'll let you know
