Hello Folks,

you are very often using CA18DET engines as an OEM swaps.
But the question is that I have seens a lots of pics that the CAs installed in Datsuns have been all idling, cold start etc. sensor stuff removed. I am wondering can anyone explain or give a hint on how it can be done and/or what consequences it causes and any other issues if such occur.

Would really appreciate the comment on that.

Theank you.

In a warm climate, a lot of the cold start stuff isn't needed.

If it snows where you come from..then you need to retain the idle control stuff.

I removed all of my stuff because the Autronic manages idle differently, and avoids engine stalling differently to the factory ECU.

If you have any of the following, you need to keep it:
- sub zero temperatures during starting
- air conditioning is connected

Once removed, the base idle is set by 'choking open' the throttle butterfly.

Thank you, Datto!

We have snow here and for the pretty long period of time - about 3 - 5 months a year.

But I am not driving this car during winter.

The idea of removing the sensors was that I and couple more guys cannot manage the normal idle when the engine warms up.

I have swapped all the sensors, but it seems that it does not help. Driving slowly and keeping the revs not more than 2,5k rpm on decceleration it works fine, but under normal driving conditions as soon as the accelerator is released and clutch engaged it stalls immediately.
Wide band shows that fuelling is too rich at that moment.
There is no cure yet for that. So the one idea was to go oldschool and to remove all unnecessary electronics.

if you start removing sensors the stock ECU goes into Limp Home mode in which it fuels up and runs very conservative timing curves to avoid any engine damage (as it thinks you've stuffed something to do with the engine and it's trying to help you get home.

Have you done a error check on the ECU? It usually tells you any sensors that are playing up.

Cheers
Damo
