G'day guys. Just wanting to know what the story is on cutting out the front of the bay where the radiator is to fit the front mount. Thanks in advance...

It is illegal to remove any of the radiator support panel. But, I'm yet to hear of someone being defected for it provided the intercooler is located behind the grille, bumper, beaver panel etc
If you're worried about it from an insurance aspect it might help to have it engineered and inform the insurance company upfront about the modifications.

No engineer in his right mind would pass a car with the front panel completely removed. A lot of engineering is about 'intent'. Aim to address the impacts of your modification, and do things to counteract any negative impact to the frontal rigidity.

My intercooler would have been in 4 weeks ago had I not cared about such things.

Any cutting of chassis rails and major sections will get you in trouble.

Talk to an engineer you plan on using first though.

But as I have been through CA18 engineers certificates 3 times (3 different engineers), I think if you take my advice with some faith.

I was with someone when they got defected for a front mount that was behind the grill, with nothing sticking out at all to be seen. And the radiator support was un-touched. It all comes down to how much of an a_sehole the highway patrol wants to be
