No seriously, where are the pushrods. overhead what?

Looks the part, how much bigger are those valves compared to std?
And the whole saga with getting hardend valve seats to run unleaded, isnt this not needed with out datsun engines as they already can run unleaded (with a fuel additive tho)?

Dave

L18_B110 so i may of just substituted a L18 SSS cam for a L20 which is actually the same grind!! Ahh well, at least ive still got it, might put it back in before i set up the rockers tomorow night.

The engine has been performance built before as it has turbo head bolts and 280zx oil pump, maybe thats why the head is on the engine.

Is there a easy way to see if the cam (One originally from engine) has a modified profile?

The W53 head still has the same combustion chambers as the 219 head but the inlet ports seem smaller.

Datrat Dave, the valves are standard in these heads, the inlet valve is a damn sight bigger than a-series i must admit.

Im not sure if the valves are hardened or not, ive been told to run it on BP Ultimate (98 Octane) and nothing else.

if its been ground, most places stamp their grind number on the nose of it.

yep, that sounds right. smaller valves too.

the SSS head (219 casting) has the biggest valves of all the L series heads. 44mm In and 35mm Exh. Common sizes in other heads are 42mm In and 33mm exhaust, although some others use the 35mm Exh, the only other engines with 44mm Inlets are some L28 heads IIRC.

I'll take photos of the two cams tomorow night and post them up here monday night (only have computer at work)

So with the W53 head, can I get larger valve seats to suit 44mm inlets?

A87 is off a L18w?
219 is off L20b bluebird?
W53 is off L16 stanza?
U63 is off L20b 200b?
i thought all standard L series had 42 & 35 valves
none came with 44mm inlet?
the biggest standard port head i have seen is the 219, & some A87, i have seen a small port and large A87 heads.

A87 is your casting number. The A87/219 head can have 2 different casting numbers.
1) A87 in the usual spot between spark plugs 1&2, and 219 on the front under the inspection plate, or
2) 219 cast between the plugs.

these are the genuine L18 SSS heads. they have standard 44mm Inlet and 35mm exhaust, and I think 38mm Inlet ports standard (might be 40 i can't remember now)

other A87 heads (without the 219) are normal L18 heads with smaller valves and ports in standard form.

anyway, yes a W53 can take bigger valves and be ported out as far as the A87.

Heres a pic of my new carbs.
L18B110 I didnt end up taking pics of the cams. I replaced L20 cam with the original cam, they both have U20 stamped on them anyway.
