The bolt is pretty much perfectly square....so my sockets, that are designed for a hex head, don't seem to be as useable.

I've got some pipe in the boot, I think I'll stick that on the end of my bug kincrome shifter and hope it doesn't round the nut.

with my CA box, the only way i removed the filler was welding a 1" nut onto and 2 blokes using a foot long ring spanner, it was ridiculous how tight it was, that's the way i did it. while it was still hot from welding. i had a spare to replace it with

Yes, use a plumber's pipe wrench. A big one. It will come out.

So I got some pipe, put that on the end of some spanners....no good. I belted the #### out of the system with a hammer...no good. I went out and bought a stillson wrench, pipe/hammer/shitloads of torque - no fcuking good.

I'm done - I'll pull the gearbox out and get someone to weld a nut onto it. I've got a spare fill plug to stuff in there.

Crap.

Did you try heating the aluminium before swinging on that stilson? Some bolts seem like they will never come undone and then with a little heat- easy! and especially with a steel bolt in aluminium as the ali expands much faster than the bolt will.

Once you've got the bolt out when you reinstall it, apply teflon tape to the top 2/3 's of threads. This has ensured a good seal and easy removal for me when reservicing.
I do this for the drain plug and diff as well.

Good thinking their Longbrow will do that - I've teflon taped the oil pressure sensor, but hadn't thought of that for these bolts.

I'll give the bolt a heat for one more try....better than removing the gearbox just for this filler bolt.
