I was wondering why chose to do the front end gear in black? tie rods, LCAs, castor rods, etc..

well thanks for the good coments glad to see people are still apreciating all my hard work!! as for the black on the tie rods etc,ive done this becasue the hole underneath is black ie the floor and aunter the tray etc also all of the rear end suspenion has been done in this way too,
if i choose to do every thing in the outer colour i would be looking at around 5 times the amount of money just for the paint alone and then theres the added preping and added painting which would be a nightmare if you consider how long each part takes to do,so as you can see ive gone with the black becasue its cheaper for one ,its very clean and keeps a nice factory type look underneath and also the preping and painting side of things is alot easyer
thanks for the question hope that clears it up for you

Wow!! I'm inspired to restore my coupe although I don't think I'll be doing it to the same extent you are. Excellent job.

A few dumb questions if you dont mind, how do you deal with cleaning up all the paint stripper goop when you remove the plastic covers, doesn't it go everywhere ?

The strippers I've used for house paint (not auto paint), enamels, latex & lacquers seems nasty enough to eat plastic drops, any particular kind of stiripper your using ?

Lastly, what is 2 pack paint ?

Thanks again, its been an enjoyable read.

cheers there mate to answer your questions
your probably best to use an automotive paint stipper you get good results with it,and as for the cleaning up the mess well thats another story !!!
yes paint stripper can be great if you only have a few coats to remove but if you find that the thing has been painted a few times before then the old paint stripper can be a real bitch ,check the following posts for more details as i have to go thru this exact thing ............

ok so here we go a short update ,since ive spent the last 3 weeks breaking my balls at work over the christmas break im going to have next week off,so this will be the last update till i go back to work so read and enjoy!!

well the next part of the mission is to adress the ute tray insides, now it isnt a pretty site in there so ive started the process by paint stripping the sides see below.........................

now the floor is far to ruff with little dents and wobbles all over the place to paint ,so ive decided to use a large sheet metal piece on the floor ,possibly checker plating ,i think that looks pretty good,

ok so today i thought i was going to get alot more done than i did but never mind its better quality than quantity at this stage,so heres what i managed to get done ,

first i started by using 40# sandpaper on the air sander to remove as much of the left over bits of paint and this is what it looked like..........

hers the other side that i didnt get around to today as you will see the amount of work i put in ,

after the 40# sandpaper came the wire wheel to get into the gaps and rip out any loose paint and old sealer this worked well but took a while to get it done........
