i just put 17'' wheels on my 1200 and the back needs 8-16mm spacer and the front rubs on the strut and needs to go in a further 2 inches
they are 17'' 215-40z.
What has to be done to the front to run normal chrome wheels not ones like simmons and rays
I want to run vaults or limited wheels off a normal 4cyl.
I still have the standard drums on front but hope when i upgrade the fit as i can get a spacer for the backQuote:

I think if you want 17s - go for it. You can get them to fit, you can get them approved.
Not everyone cares about how a car handles on a racetrack. Yeah there are potholes and stuff on suburban roads but its not a race track. Most people run cheap heavy arse mag wheels that cause the car to handle crap anyway. Most people lower their cars and put stiffer suspension as a result. Is that suited to good handleing on suburban streets?
I say build your car for yourself. If you like the look - do it. Its your car. #### what others say, Its not their money.

Please dude, do not fit 17's.
A small Datsun with seventeens looks like a charriot, the wheel is way to big in diameter to fit the profile and dimensions of the car.
Imagine a Porsche 911 which has 18 in wheels, or even 19 from factory, with 24 in wheels....it would look like a tractor!
Your performance will be terrible, because there could not be anything but thin rubber, and you will have to fit super hard springs and gas shocks/struts to avoid your tires from rubbing the body.
If I were not to like you, and wanted your car to look awfull, I will tell you:
"Mate, yes, get those 17 in your car, it will look great!"
My 2 cents.

the problem is that 13" regular mag wheels that fit the 1200 don't look too menacing

now if you want to do flares, that's another story, but if you want wide 13" alloy wheels, they ain't easy to find

once you have 13" wheels with stretched performance tires, you have a new problem:

you end with having to lower the car a lot more because of the larger gap caused by a smaller diameter wheel/tire

never mind the fact an extremely lowered car will bounce all over the road

so, different problems for different wheel diameters ...

No 1 will talk me out of 17s....
I think a tubed ute with 13s would look so stupid its not funny.
I sat them on and it looks wicked
And if it makes it look like a 4wd awsome cause they look to small as it is.
My only question is
Will 17x6.5 rim scrub on the front strut
I dont care how it handles
Or what other people think
Just need to no if they will fit

You will have no problems, it can be done. I have seen a couple of Mazda R100 with 20 in wheels.....you can fit anything you really want to fit.

Go to the local tire store and get hooked with what you need may have to pump the guards a little for clearance, 17s have no give in the sidewalls great for cornering but crappy ride. I went back to fifteens on my altima comfy ride now.
