i rang up jeff a while ago now and he said if i want 10:1 comp with stock pistons on my a15 skim the head 40 thou and that should do it now all ive got to worry about is valve clearance when i get a bigger cam

40 thou sounds alot to take off the head. Would it not be better to shave off the block instead as you would have to take less off?

If you deck the block you will need to ensure that the pistons do not protrude & strike the head. Interestingly, any remedial
machining on the original dished pistons will also increase compression, so this fact could be factored in to reduce the amount
of material that is needed to be removed from the deck for a given compression ratio.

Definately worth looking into. Will have to sit down some time and do some maths.
How much clearance do I have with the valves to play with?
