Try running a wire directly from the batt. to coil + ,maybe a fault wire and try changing coils as well.
You can always put the standard stuff back,if all is well then you know theres no fuel problem

just set timing to 14degrees, a noticeable increase in revs from 4000rpm up to 5800rpm getting there slowly!

Are you running the stock tacho??
They (and most old / cheap tachos) can be a rev limiter when they s**t themselves. Bypass your tacho and try again - worth the effort to find out!!

running a cheapish tacho, $130 with a shift light, I will disconnect it and see how it revs, well I will guess how it revs by the sound of the engine
